System Advice
Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a Scan system for my next PC. I'll be using it for a bunch of stuff like gaming, programming (including DX11 graphics), photo editing (including large HDR panoramics), music composition. This is the spec I'm currently looking at:
3xs.scan.co.uk/ConfigureSystem.asp?SystemID=1096
with the following options:
Silverstone Fortress FT01B-W Tower Case Black
Asus P6X58D-E
Intel Core i7 930
Prolimatech Megahalems Cooler
12GB (6x2GB) Corsair XMS3 DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600), CAS 9
1Gb XFX HD 5870
850W Corsair HX Series Modular PSU
1TB Western Digital Caviar Black, SATA 6Gb/s, 64MB Cache
120GB Corsair Force, Sandforce SSD
LG CH10LS20 - 8x Blu-Ray Reader & DVDRW
On Board Sound
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
Does this seem like a reasonable spec?
I've got a few questions. I've read that the Prolimatech cooler is a lot better with an attached fan. Would a fan be included in this build? Also, I've seen that the cooler can block some of the memory slots with some motherboards. Will this be a problem with the Asus P6X58D-E and the full complement of memory I have?
Thanks for any help!

Re: System Advice
I've got a similar scan system and it came with a silent fan on the cooler, the xms memory doesn't look like it'll bump into the cooler but I understand 12gb instead of 6gb can limit the overclock

Re: System Advice
As they are fairly cheap I would probably add a 2nd 1TB drive and have it as a mirrored raid. Then your data is safe if one of the drives fails.
