    3XS Fixed Spec - False Delivery Date

    Being a regular business customer for SCAN components, I decided to recommend to my sister that she buy a 3XS system for her children for XMAS.

    I talked her through the order process and at the end I was pleasantly surprised to see her be able to select a delivery date of last Thursday (.16-12-2010)

    To my horror on the weekend my sister phoned me to say the computer never arrived and now I have rang Scan and am awaiting a call back..

    Are my sisters kids going to end up with no computer for xmas (it is their only present) despite Scan order process stating delivery next Thursday and also there is no reference to any lead times on orders (which I read somewhere else)..

    Invoice number E*****

    Being a system engineer I could build one myself if I can get the components in time but of course that would mean that Scan are losing this order and are going to get some negative comments .. which I am reluctant to do as Scan have always been fantastic to my company on all occasions in the past.

    I have looked into your order which was placed on the 14th of December on the 15th of December we sent an email stating it could be upto 10 working days before we can build this machine. I hope you understand we are under very heavy workloads at the moment due to Christmas and the expected VAT increase. I will chase this with system build and keep you updated.

    Thanks for the update. Although I appreciate an email may have been sent the day after the order was placed, this does not relinquish responsibility for offering a delivery date of 16/12/2010 when the order was placed.... I am sure you appreciate that if non delivery before xmas had been stated, the order would not have been placed in the first place.

    I would like to know one way or the other if this order will be delivered before Xmas as I do not wish to be the one responsible for totally ruining my sisters kids xmas.

    Well, my sisters kids will not be opening up their new computer from Scan, as .. it never arrived.

    As DPL dont even have a reference number, I can only assume that despite Scan showing order statusof complete, it is actually not even at dispatch and was never going to get delivered for xmas.

    My faith in Scan and DPL is now ZERO....... you can blame the weather for many things but seeing as City Link delivered today on something else I had ordered, it is not an acceptable excuse anymore.

    At the end of the day.. Scan order process offered delivery on a date it was never ever going to achieve.

    Thanks for spoiling Christmas for 3 young boys......

    Scan informed the customer after the order was placed that the computer was not guaranteed to arrive before Christmas. So... why are you complaining?

    Are you implying it is ok for a company to allow you to baltantly specify a pre-xmas delivery date (of 1 week before xmas day...) when placing the order, then take your money and then not to deliver ?

    Why do you think this is acceptable business practice? Take the money then say "oh by the way we didnt mean it.."

    I'll repeat again. Did they or did they not send an email, after the order was placed, saying that the computer might not be built in time for Christmas? The Scan posters have already answered the question - when the order was placed, there was the following warning:

    Please note:
    If you have ordered a SCAN 3XS system, please note the delivery time may be up to 10 working days. We will endeavor to build the system and have it dispatched as soon as possible. Please await a call from us to confirm the exact despatch date.
    Within 24 hours they sent the following email:

    I do not think you read my emails before repeating as I think I have explained twice why...

    Anyway.. let me continue with further reasons to complain..

    Email received on 24th December...

    your order has been disptached and your order will be delivered by DPD between 930am and 530pm under the following consignment reference
    <BLANK>

    You can check your delivery status using the link.... bla bla bla..

    go to the link.. Enter consignment reference and invoice number..

    Oh .. but I was not given a consignment reference so I cannot track the order..

    I wonder if it has actually even been dispatched ?????

    Would YOU be happy with this sort of service then?


    **** Further to above. the actual first email received from Scan on this order was actually 20/12/2010, not "NEXT DAY -15/12/2010" as you are suggesting....*** In this email of 20/12/2010 it also states they intend to complete the system on 23/12/2010.... I personally think the build team probably did get the system completed on time, respect to them for that.. but once it was built I think it was a case of "who cares getting this dispatched and delivered before xmas".

    Well, I guess my expectations from this purchase were a bit high as the computer arrived today and my sister thinks that Scan have done a really good job getting it to them just after xmas day, so who am I to argue with that. She wants some other bits and bobs for the computer now (gaming keyboard, gaming mouse etc and intends to buy them through Scan as well.. so my recommendation seems to have paid off and I dont feel so bad now)

    Computer is working fine and seems to exceed what they were expecting..

    So .. apologies to Scan for my frustrations and thanks for doing a good job.

    Now who shall I purchase my GTX 570 card with????

    Just to confirm as I believe this point has been missed... We state PRIOR to taking payment that a 3XS system may be up to 10 working days.

    TheodanUK, I am sorry to hear of your disappointment and frustration, We do our best at this time of year to get as many systems delivered before Christmas as possible. Please understand we have no intentions of "spoiling Christmas for 3 young boys".

    It’s great to hear that the system has now been delivered and your sister is happy with the machine, thank you for taking your time to post this up.

    I would hope that despite the problems you have had with this purchase you look to use scan as your supplier in future, our very presence on these boards show our dedication in keeping everyone happy even when things go wrong.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I certainly will continue to keep Scan on my supplier list. The system you have supplied is of fantastic quality.

    Unfortunately I have had to purchase my latest Zotac GTX 570 from a rival supplier (dabs.com) as you are £30 overpriced on this high end GPU.
