Question 3XS Black Widow Exreme - Corsair 800D Front I/O Panel

As per my post regarding the onboard sound issue I tried today to plug in a headset to one of the USB ports on the front of the case but it didn't seem to work at all.

From left to right the front I/O panel appears to have:
    2x 2.0 USB ports
    Microphone & Headhones 3.5mm ports
    2x 2.0 USB ports
    1 x eSATA (I think)

I have my mouse & Keyboard in the second set and these work fine. However when I plug anything into either of the first 2 USB ports nothing seems to happen. I have tried rebooting with the mouse and keyboard in these and they are not detected. Likewise plugging in the headset to the back of the case works but then I don't have enough cable to where I sit.

I've noticed there is a USB cable that just seemed to hang loose out the back of the case when I got it. I plugged that into one of the top 2 USB ports on the backpanel and have never really noticed whether that has done anything or not. Certainly plugging the headset into either of these two ports gets it detected and working so the ports themselves seem ok.

Having just taken out the "dangling" USB cable and re-connected it the system tray did come up briefly with a new hardware detected - installing software box. No idea what this actually does or what hardware it detected but seems to mean that this cable does something.

Sorry to be such a noob about these things. Only just tried these ports today and tbh it's not that big a deal anyway. Just would be great to get them working so I can play UT3 over headphones even if not 5.1.

Thanks for any help or advice anybody is able to provide.

Re: 3XS Black Widow Exreme - Corsair 800D Front I/O Panel

Spoke to Ben today about something else and he mentioned that this is quite normal. The Corsair 800D has too many extra ones that can't be plugged into the motherboard that I am using. No biggie. At least now I know.

Finally figured out what that spare USB cable hanging out the back was for. I was wondering why Aquasuite in Windows wasn't reporting anything but was quite happy to leave well alone. Anyway, after plugging it in again today it does link the Aquaero monitor to the system.

Sadly I somehow seem to have lost the 3XS - BWE profile at this point so now it is only reporting in German - LOL. Still, Ben's promised to email me the profile tomorrow so should be ok then.

[Got the new profile - everything is now back in English - well except when it shuts down for some reason. It's saying something in German but don't know what. Probably saving settings & shutting down or something similar]

Re: 3XS Black Widow Exreme - Corsair 800D Front I/O Panel

    Hi

Can you try and set the language and then immediately after reflash the firmware and see it that resolves the issue

The general opinion from our R&D guys and Aqua is that the earlier firmware shouldnt have been changed as the device is now flashed with a German firmware file that has partial english as they are a German company, let me know how you get on and if it resolves the issue, also if you can give me a link to your forum post I will see if I can get them to respond to you directly

Can you confirm why you updated the firmware in the first place? Was there an issue with the older firmware as I am not at work now and cant check your query notes?

Loading the earlier firmware back on is not possible after the Aquero has been updated this is how it is designed unfortunately

    Regards

    Ben

Re: 3XS Black Widow Exreme - Corsair 800D Front I/O Panel

    Hi Ben,

Sorry not to reply sooner. After tweaking the display settings I now don't get the German stuff coming up. This is simply a workround since it's probably still there but I've stopped it from displaying those screens.

The only reason I did the firmware (if I did) is that Aquasuite has an update software checker which it runs once a month. This came up saying that the device was not up to date so I installed the updates. It never said anything about flashing firmware (although this might have been stated in German). I thought flashing firmware was usually far more involved than downloading and running an update but I suppose different hardware does it in different ways. Suffice to say that if I had realised at the time it was a firmware update I would have left it alone.

Anyway, it seems to be working fine and it gives me all the info I need so I'm very happy with it as is.

I've stopped it from doing any more updates though so hopefully there won't be any more issues.

    Thanks & Regards,

    David
