Windows 7 boot issues - USB releated
Hi,
I have a systems which is built around a recent 3XS Overclock bundle.
The system is a Gigabyte Z68 with i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz and 8GB RAM running Windows 7 64bit.
The problem I have is that occasionally when it boots I get the BIOS screen followed by the Windows 7 splash screen appear just fine. Then when it should move onto the Windows Logon/Password screen it just goes to a black screen and nothing else happens. I have to power off and reboot which then puts windows into startup repair mode. It finds no problem, reboots and all works fine again.
I've worked out what is triggering this and want to know if there is a fix. The trigger is when a USB device has been unplugged or plugged in while the PC is switched off, or even if it's plugged into a different USB port. If the devices aren't plugged into the exact same ports as when Windows was last shut-down, it goes into this error mode on boot.
Has anyeone else had this problem and found a fix?
Thanks,
DC
Re: Windows 7 boot issues - USB releated
I had this problem with a steelseries xai usb mouse last year, for some reason it stalled the boot process on a black screen and wouldnt continue until i had unplugged it. In the end after finding others with the same problem and no fix available I sent the mouse back and got a razor mouse. Im not saying this IS your problem just that in my case it was. Is it the same usb device that causes the stall?

No, it can be my USB wireless mouse & keyboard, or an external HDD or even a memory stick.
