3XS System with Starwars Old Republic!

Hi,

Im currently running on an Alienware M11x R2, with the i5 chip and 8GB, it's an amazing little laptop, but I have had it for about a year now and it just ain't cutting it on some of the newer games. I recently purchased the new Starwars old republic, and it doesn't seem to get on very well with it. On average im hitting about 30-40fps, but during combat or built up area's that can drop significantly to around 10-15fps.

As I will now be dedicating most of my sad life to this game as you do with MMO's, I was wondering if you could suggest a decent 3XS machine. My budget isn't that high (£850 Max). I have looked at your value systems as well as your bundles and i3/i5 gaming systems, however I am more keen on purchasing an i7 or i5 minimum. I have also speced up my own machine but it seem's you make significant savings with the pre-built machines at the same spec.

Now the question is........Which of these systems will run that game on high (Everything) at 1080p, getting 60-75fps consistently! If that has not been tested I would put it to you to try run any of those machines on that game at those settings, cause it loves to eat up resources.

You should try building one youself!!

For that sort of budget you should be able to get a Core i5 2500K and a GTX560TI or HD6950 2GB.

If you go with this Scan system,you can get a GTX460SC or a HD6870 1GB,Core i5 2400 and a 22" monitor within your budget:

Generally the HD6870 1GB should be a bit faster than a GTX460 1GB,but I would check benchmarks for SWTOR first!

My honest answer.... which probably isnt what you want to hear is...

I would sit on the money for a little while.

So many poeple are having fps issues with swtor and many have very high end systems.

The swtor devs have said they know about the issue and are looking to see what they can do.

Wait a month or two and see how things are progressing then.

If they have fixed the fps issues you can then go on the forums and see which hardware is playing it best.

As an example I'm running Phenom x4 945 + 8Gb Ram + 560ti card and have things running smoothly (but I do have the flashing load screen issue sometimes and I havent done any warzones - which is a known fps hog)

The way they have been fixing bugs so far I cant see it being too long before things smooth out a lot.

That's good advice,Siuko, as if it is having issues then they will be affecting the gameplay experience the OP is having on their laptop.

Really appreciate the responses. I totally agree with the comments above. It's still at such an early stage and I have seen this numerous times on many games you can usually get a 50% increase in performance after they have tweaked and optimised the game. Let alone the increase in performance once you get updated graphics drivers. I know for a fact Nvidia are running the beta drivers for that game. I was very suspicious to why I was getting such low FPS on the alienware - cause in all honestly it's a pretty beefy machine. I can run MW3 and Arkham asylum on medium/high and get a decent FPS. I guess Im being pretty impatient, but you never know with new games, it can sometimes take up to 6 months before you start seeing decent gains in performance.
