    Overheating

Has anyone any overheating problems with the the sandybridge I7?

My core temp on all 4 is around 40-50 on idle and shoots up to 98 when i load any game....

The weird thing is that i have no symptoms, no crashes or failures the pc behaves perfectly normal and as soon as I quit the game it drops almost immediately back to 40-50 degrees.
I can play games for hours with no ill effects it just sits on 98 until i quit.

    It's making me nervous though.

Is this normal? Any thoughts on what I can\should do?

Other than boxing it up and sending it back to scan.

    Hi snooty!

It is indeed... I've switched off all SCANs overclocking in the BIOS and the result is as above...

When I reactivate the 3XS overclock profile in the bios it idles at 80-90 and very noisy with fans going crazy!!!!!

I'm thinking the cooler is busted...

    Re: Overheating

Is the room where the machine is quite warm?

My non overclocked i5 3540 is idling around 47 at the moment but its quite warm in the house even though have several fans going.

My advice would be to leave it in the non OC profile until the weather cools a little.

The fan on my old Pentium D used to go nuts when it was warm like this and that was just stock speed 3.4Ghz

    Re: Overheating

Just wondering if warm air was being driven through the intakes.

I expect the radiator is quite hot at the moment, if you have any sort of desk fan you could direct onto it that might help.

I wish someone would design mini aircon units for PCs.

I know mini fridges uses a electro cooling design which would be ideal for PCs.

    Mmmmmmm

If i clean and reapply AS5 and reseat the cooler will I run into warranty problems?

You can always ask them direct, in the meantime pull the side panel off and point some fans at it and stock clock it IMHO. But today was very hot and that's adding 15-20c ambient temp' issues to what may be a rig not running as cool as possible anyway. If the CPU is hitting 98c it should be thermal throttling to hell!

    Re: Overheating

When I run Prime95, ASUS Probe II and Core Temp together...

Core Temp rises to 98 and goes crazy with critical balloons...

ASUS Probe II rises to about 85 then drops to 77 and holds steady...

    See attached weirdness.
