    No sli bridge

I bought my system about a year ago with a single gtx580 in it, since then I have upgraded to a gtx 680, and in a couple of weeks when the wife is away I will order a second to run in sli ,however I dont have a sli bridge and have searched around the internet and people seem to be saying that the bridge comes with the motherboard. I didnt get a bridge in my Motherboard box I just wondered if anyone else did?, also my Motherboard has 3 sli slots so if I should have received one would it have been a 3 way sli bridge and would it have worked just using 2 gfx cards.

    Thx in Advance

    Re: No sli bridge

They must come in the box with Asus. On my 3XS build I have dual 680s in sli and a spare bridge came with it. That having been said I have a spare ASUS one and my cards are EVGA. I cannot see the brand on the bridge in my rig but it isn't the same. I have and ASUS mobo sdo wonder if it came with that. Sorry not much help am I! Just thinking how lucky you will be when you are rocking dual 680s.

Nice Idea, unfortunately I work mostly from home so I have to plan my purchases in advance, which makes the DPD next day 1 hour time slot perfect for my techno addiction

Some are rigid some are flexible, only restricted with use with the rigid ones, you can get those off the supplier of your system.

Hopefully that should be ok. I've just checked mine though and it appears to be a 12cm connector. My two GTX 680's are in slots 1 and 3 on my motherboard and there is a fair amount of bend on the connector. It looks as though 6cm would have been fine but it would have been quite tight.

Looking at your system it looks like you have a 24" monitor at 1920 x 1080? generally a single GTX 680 is deemed to be fine playing pretty much anything at this res with good image quality and AA levels. Is there a specific reason you want to SLI or are you planning on changing monitors?

Bearing in mind going to an SLI setup can introduce micro-stutter into your games typically there is a reason people opt for it in the first place ie, running at 2560 x 1600, Nvidia 3D vision, 120hz gaming, 5760 x 1080 surround gaming...etc

However I really haven't encountered any problems with mine whatsoever. Played every game I've thrown at them without any issues. I'm still on an old(ish) 24" monitor at 1920 x 1080 but my plan is to go to a 3D vision / 120hz monitor when I have the money. Since my cards are water-cooled it made sense to put them both in now and get the monitor when I can afford it as opposed to waiting to get the second card and then having to send the machine back to Scan to rebuild the loop and add in the extra card.

I'm certainly not trying to dissuade you, just interested in your reasoning behind wanting to go SLI.

Overall I'm very pleased with mine anyway and I can get away with some pretty sick AA modes with two GTX 680's

    Re: No sli bridge

Im planning on getting a 120Hz monitor so would like to be able to reach some high fps with all settings maxed out, I got the 6cm bridge (its a flexible one) because I measured the distance as if they were in slots 1 and 2.

    Re: No sli bridge

Cool, I believe on my board slots 1 & 3 are both rated to run at PCIe 2.0 x16 mode and therefore they are the ones I had to use. Putting them in the first two slots on my board resulted in one running at 2.0 x16 and one at 2.0 x8.

As long as you utilise the full bandwidth available on your motherboard then I'm sure it will be fine

[Edit: Looks as though slots 1 & 2 are the correct ones: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/artic...erboard/1321/2 ]

    Re: No sli bridge

    Hey Spoons,

Yes I was actually looking at that one myself. Seems to be very good from the reviews I read. Also the XL2410T which is a bit cheaper is a possibility. The main difference seems to be it doesn't offer Nvidia 3D Vision 2 with Lightboost but just the original 3D Vision. If you're not bothered about 3D Vision you may be able to save some money and go for this model instead.

It was really between that one and the 27" Asus VG278HE which is quite a bit pricier but runs at 144hz and is obviously a slightly larger screen. Can't recall seeing a review of the Asus monitor yet though.

Still it's an extra £100.00 ish if I went for the 3D Vision 2 glasses on top........decisions, decisions!!!

    Re: No sli bridge

I dont really want to go above 24'', I did look at the XL2410T as I prefer the look of the stand (I'm not mad on the red trims on the XL2420T) but I wanted a couple of usb ports which it didnt seem to have, I dont know anything about 3D vision 2 and lightboost, I would like to try gaming in 3D so does it mean if I did get the XL2410T that I couldnt game in 3D or would it not be as good?

    Re: No sli bridge

    Hi Spoons,

    Here's a quick excerpt from a review on a 3D Vision 2 bundle:

If you already have a 3D Vision kit, there are obviously very few reasons to upgrade the glasses but the LightBoost-certified monitors are drool worthy. Even when using the original kit, the VG278H’s improvements over the Samsung 2233RZ and even Acer’s GD235GHZ were almost indescribable. Games were bright, sharp and ghosting-free instead of dull, slightly fuzzy and filled with blurred high speed movements. Even lower quality Youtube3D videos retained their natural coloration and luminosity qualities. I found the Depth setting could be also increased without causing the onset of stereoscopic 3D’s telltale headaches. This reduction in eyestrain bodes well for first time users and people who have adverse affects when viewing 3D images.

    Full review: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-review-4.html

Sounds as though it does bring a noticeable performance increase going from 3D Vision to 3D Vision 2 so I'd buy into the newer version myself as it's only £50 or so more. It's definitely not required though. I suppose it comes down to whether you're happy to spend the extra money or not. Ideally though you'd want to go to a store where you can try out both of them. I don't know if the Scan store has both setup or maybe even PC World?????

I have a mate who recently sold his 3D monitor before I was able to get a look sadly but he always thought that it added a lot to games like Mass Effect 3 and Metro 2033. Other's the benefits were next to nil are made the game unplayable in his opinion. I guess that 3D monitors / tv's are still fairly new tech and there could still be big improvements made to it down the line. Either that or wait for the Occulus Rift headset to become commercially available. That has got me genuinely excited!!!

    Re: No sli bridge

I have all the gear, but no idea, I bought the original Nvidia 3D kit which is a bit of a con as you don't need the glasses etc if you have a 3D tv, if you have a monitor or tv you generally use those glasses not the ones that come with the kit, I have played a bit of 3D on my 50" screen but it's not that great so I haven't played it often, can't be bothered and like to have the tv on while I game on the monitor although I was waiting for the new 3D monitors as I would probably use that more than the 3D tv, not a lot of those had good reviews though.
Still new technology really, about 50 years old, but if it isn't ready, don't blooming release it!
