Rubbish service from scan - sorted

I bought my last pc from scan which took them 4 weeks to build as gtx 480 was coming out at the time, I was quoted 5 days over the phone. Now it's time for a new pc and scan was once again my first choice purely because I prefer the website. I like the look of the performance q10 but want a high end and silent graphics card so have asked for a quote to include nvidia evga hybrid 980ti graphics. I got told this wasn't possible over the phone so I had to email jit@scan.co.uk.

That was a 3 days ago. I have since chased it up and been told those graphics cards are on a long waiting list now so you will have to wait for ages for your system. I already had a gigabyte 980ti card which scan advised me to send back to my supplier (ebuyer) as they could only fit evga cooler to an evga card. At no point has any member of scan suggested doing an evga card for a reduced price and fitting the cooler to it.

I havent even got a quote. Not impressed and thinking of trying out the competition. Perhaps scan isn't bothered about getting the business.

    Sorry what?
Your complaint is that they wont install and warranty hardware sold by someone else, that stock is on back order or that they won't butcher some of said back ordered stock, firt the heatsink to a different card and then sell it to you at a discount?

I stongly suspect that if they're your expectations then you're gonna be dissapoint wherever you buy from

    Re: Rubbish service from scan

No my complaint is I've been waiting 2 days for the quote I've requested and they don't seem interested in suggesting solutions to low stock issues.

    Re: Rubbish service from scan

    jjgreenwood,

We're sorry about the delay on this. We check these things thoroughly and unfortunately our chief WC engineer is out of the office at present, so this created a slight delay as we asked another team to review this.

    Looking over your spec;

Corsair Obsidian 550D, Black, Aluminium/Steel, 221x495x531 (WxHxD in mm), 2x USB 3, Headphone & Mic
Asus Z97 Pro Gamer, SLI, CrossfireX, 4 SATA 6Gbps, 1 PCI-E M.2, SATA RAID, ATX, SupremeFX
Intel Core i5 4690K, Haswell Refresh, Quad Core, 3.5GHz, 3.9GHz Turbo, 6MB Cache [Overclocked - CPU professionally overclocked up to 4.6GHz.]
Noctua NH-U14S Ultra-Quiet Performance CPU Cooler
    16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance Pro, 2133MHz, CAS 11-11-11-27, 1.5V [Gold Heatsink]
750W Corsair RM, Modular, Silent, 80PLUS Gold - Any Dual Graphics Cards
    500GB Samsung 850 EVO, Read 540MB/s, Write 520MB/s, 97K IOPS
    Pioneer BDC-207DBK - 8x Blu-ray Reader, 16x DVD Reader & Writer
    6GB EVGA GTX 980 Ti HYBRID, 28nm, PCIe 3.0, 7010MHz GDDR5, GPU 1140MHz, Boost 1228MHz, Cores 2816, 3x DP/HDMI/DVI-I DL

This looks to be a great machine and yes, we'll be able to fit a Hybrid card in there. Unsure of your fan placements / orientations but we'd sort that when we get the machine back for an upgrade.

So yeah re: 980Ti's - there's literally *nothing* we can do but wait for the Hybrid cards if these are the ones you wish to have. If a customer explains that they specifically want a particular card, we'll naturally cater your spec to include what you have asked for. We try not to push a solution which you haven't asked for - however - if you are open to the use of EVGA cards and Titan X blocks - why didn't you say?

We're more than happy to spec this up for you. I'm sorry that this wasn't suggested at the time but you're always welcome to ask and we'll always spec up to your requirements. Jit is on the case for this and if you could please confirm which block you wish to use he can provide a quote early next week (again, we have to have an engineer check / verify the wc spec).

    Cheers

    Re: Rubbish service from scan

Hi Lee, thanks for replying. Its for a whole system order rather than an existing system. The system I was asking about was the EVGA AIO cooler combined with an EVGA reference card rather than a whole new block & loop system. So rather than buying the out of stock hybrid card buying the reference evga card in stock/available soon and the cooler and getting you guys to put the cooler on and install in the new machine. Looking at the website this should be a similar cost if a little bit more than buying the hybrid card and be pretty much exactly the same thing. I understand you couldn't do this with my existing gigabyte card and I am going to send that back as per your advice.

apologies if I haven't made this completely clear.

Re: Rubbish service from scan - sorted

Thought I'd update the thread. I gave up on getting scan to custom build the pc as I replied to the email they sent with some changes and they never got back to me, so I ordered the x99 nanu nexus reviewed recently off the website instead. A bit of a change in direction but I eventually decided that I'd deal the the heat it would put out in exchange for having something SFF I can put on my desk and benefit from faster components for only slightly more than what I was planning to spend for the custom build. I did put an email in asking about the power supply but never heard a reply so I guess I'm sticking with the corsair scan pick lol. Its in for memory testing at the moment and hopefully should be dispatched on friday. Looking forward to it and will comment on here once it arrives.

Incidentally whilst communication might not be great, I went with scan because my last pc was very well built indeed and I expect this one will be exactly the same.

I never had an email from you! Who were you mailing? Just checked my inbox for anything 'greenwood' and I've nothing... Let me know an invoice by PM and I'll double check everything for you.

I was emailing jit@scan.co.uk lee, no worries I've ordered a system now and its going through its quality checks. My email about the power supply was through the 3xs support and I had a confirmation email. System has been at the quality check for 2 days now so I hope it arrives soon.
