    Exclamation Low microphone sound

    Hiya there

I have a computer which I received in November last year one of the 3XS gamer series, I had been using it only to browse and play the odd game and until now had not used the microphone at all as I Skype and use Second Life on my other computer.

I decided to move over the use of Skype and Second Life to this computer, now the problem is people could only hear me very quietly, and when I ran the computer set-up within windows itself it said it could not hear me very clearly and the green bars barely moved even when speaking loudly into the microphone, louder than you normally would.

Here is what I have tried.

    1) Testing the microphone on another computer, it sounds fine on my second computer

    2) I installed a Creative sound card (disabling in BIOS the on-board) still very quiet ( I really thought this would solve it) using the latest drivers

    3) I have tried a USB headset purchased new.. works fine on my second computer, very quiet on this one.

    4) I have tried all the settings regarding the microphone input maxing them out to 100%

    5) Have tried latest sound drivers from the Asus site, as well as from realtek (for the onboard) still no improvement.

    6) Have tried (as a last resort) an update to Windows 10 (but as I suspected by now.. no change)

I run Windows 7 (SP1) all the latest critical and recommended updates.
    Motherboard is an Asus Z97-K

I was expecting the Creative sound card to improve the situation but it may be that the motherboard still has a max level.. not sure ? I wonder if anyone could help with this I would be very grateful.

    Z

    Re: Low microphone sound

If you have condenser type mic there may be somewhere a setting to increase the output. Had this problem but was using win 98/5, awhile ago now so this setting may be automatic with a modern os.

In Recording Devices -> Properties -> Microphone Boost...
    Up that a bit...

What PaulM1 was referring to is the boost (which was a checkbox in Win9x)

Hi yes thanks I have tried that, I have already tried all the boost settings.

I have used this the past few days seems to be a remedy of types.

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/

Add a pre-boost to any APO works well. seems to have been software related.
