    KWorld PE-355

Hi there, I recently made a purchase for parts for an HTPC. As part of the parts package there was a Kworld PE-355 for my primary rig. However, I am having some driver related issued.

The signal, althrough perfectly fine, and verified so by a freeview box I have lieing around, will skip and be very hard to watch on my main rig. The same card produces excellent quality within the HTPC however.

By uninstalling the drivers for my the Kworld, the Asus Xonar D2X and the Realtek HD Audio on my Gigabyte UD5 I can make the signal stable by rebooting and letting the system reinstall the drivers.

(If I uninstall just the Kworld and the Xonar the system will BSOD when I attempt change channel after this procedure)

However, upon a further reboot, the signal problems return.

I am not sure what to do as the Xonar D2X, which I made with a previous order, appears to be causing the problem, and I'm worried that ordering a replacement TV card of a different make will just result in me having exactly the same problem.

However, the Xonar D2X is no longer covered by a Scansure policy and it is out with the period outlined by the DSR as I have had it for more than 30 days. (ordered on the 26/09/09),

I am not sure what to do. I could, in theory, reinstall Windows, but I am not sure if that'll achieve anything.

    So my options appear thus:
    • Return the Kworld and request another TV card. (if indeed circumstances allow for such a return)
    • Buy another sound card and find something to do with the D2X.
    • Reinstall Windows in a vain hope it'll fix the issue likely running out of time to return the TV card within the window required if it fails to fix the issue.

I am unsure what action to proceed with.

Right, tonight I will be removing the Xonar to see if the issue persists. If it is in fact the Xonar, I want to know what my options are, because I can confirm that this issue will also occur with other TV cards so long as I still have the Xonar installed. (A user reported a similar issue which is related to the Xonar sound card.)

    Re: KWorld PE-355

*starches head* what the... okay I physically removed the Xonar from the system, and I am still having the same intermittent signal problems. Now, the reason I thought it was a driver conflict was that reinstalling both (but not just the TV card) the Xonar and the TV card resulting in stable signal. However, upon reboot the issue would return.

Granted the signal distortions are not as bad. Is it possible I was having two issues, one with the fact that the Kworld does not work to well under 64 bit Windows 7, AND the Xonar conflict?

I do not know. I've done everything in my power to try and track down this issue, and I thought I'd nailed it but I was thrown a curve ball with this one. I guess the advantage is that I was probably not gonna be able to do anything about the Xonar.

Would it be possible to arrange a return of the TV card? I am not entirely sure of where this sort of claim fits in.

    • The product is not fit for purpose for the intended use I purchased it for, but it is fit for purpose within the intended use the card was sold under, so weather it can be covered under fair trade agreements is debatable.
    • The product was delivered under all the conditions of DSR, I can find now damage during transits, nor do I feel I that I did not get the product advertised.
    • The product is not faulty, as far as I can tell, except in that the drivers are not mature enough for it's intended purpose, so returning it under RMA would not find any hardware related issues. Besides, an RMA Warranty claim would only result in a replacement card, not a refund, or store credit to buy a compatible card.
    • The product has not been damaged while in my procession within 28 days of the delivery date, as covered by the ScanSure policy. However if it was, this would still only result in a replacement with the exact same product, which will not fix my problem.

It is also likely that future patches and or driver updates for my products will result in theses issues being resolved. However, despite all this, the simple fact is, I have a card that doesn't work properly through no fault of my own, Scans, or even the product manufactures.

So Scan, do you have any ideas as to how to resolve this situation we find ourselves in? Can you think of an option or policy that covers this type of situation? Do you have any idea if there is a replacement product which will resolve my issues, and if so, what can be done about the pre-existing Kworld bar resale to 2nd hand to another party?

(Please note that if anyone outside of Scan has comments to make on this issue, I have a non-aftersales support forum posting that you should post to here).

    Re: KWorld PE-355

Can I please get a reply or suggestions on this issue?

Given the fact that the product does not work as advertised, can I return it?

Or will I just have the keep, until something changes like new drivers to fix the issue, the £40 paperweight?
