    Re: Direct Samsung warranty invalid?

Looking through Scan, isn't it made obvious(ish) in the warranty section of each product? If it says "Manufacturer: Scan" there, your warranty's with Scan, not the real manufacturer. Obviously if it didn't say that there and the manufacturer would not honour the warranty that would be different.

And it seems to vary whether it's a good thing or not. Some products end up with a longer warranty through Scan than direct from the manufacturer. Others definitely much shorter: the Seasonic X-650 power supply is 5 years elsewhere, but only 2 through Scan.

I agree that it does leave an uncomfortable feeling, as doing it seems to be fairly unique to Scan.

The Seasonic PSU has got 2 years with Scan, the remainder with the Manufacturer.

OK, I take it back then if that's true. Scan don't make that clear anywhere I've seen.

    Re: Direct Samsung warranty invalid?

UK Legislation requires Scan to be responsible for all sales, where a warranty is offered with the manufacturer, this is only ever in addition and not a legal obligation in any case.

If the manufacturer warranty route is not possible, this really has no effect in any case to our legal obligations.

Hope this clears the matter up.

So why then do some items have Scan listed for support and others have the manufacturer? What does that signify? (Apologies if this is in some FAQ somewhere)

Because some items can only ever come back to ourselves, some may have the availibility of manufacturer support.

Some customers may ask to come to ourselves when only manufacturer support is available and all this really does is delay things as all we can do is forward the item on.

It's gets pretty complicated, but ultimately, the company you purchased an item from is legally obligated to support that item under a few different pieces of legislation.

Generally when a customer can deal with the manufacturer direct, this speeds up the overall process and provides a better experience to the end user.

    Re: Direct Samsung warranty invalid?

As an example of how Scan's own warranty is inferior to a genuine manufacturer one, I've just had a 1TB F3 drive I purchased in July fail on me. This will be returned (RMA already requested) but, as I can't wait for the replacement and don't trust the F3 any more (this is the second to fail on me), I'll be buying another brand and will then sell on the replacement F3 that Scan will no doubt send me.

Problem is that I won't be able to sell the replacement drive as having the balance of the three-year direct Samsung warranty, but only as having Scan's own warranty, which will reduce its value.

What's the deal here - is the Scan warranty transferrable, just like the Samsung one would have been? If the new owner has an issue, would Scan honour it or would they need me to provide my original receipts to the new owner as proof? You can see how this is hardly ideal compared to a direct Samsung warranty.

I have had a drive fail and got the same message on the Samsung site when I tried to arrange a RMA.

SCAN knew about this so why did they not inform customers who purchased the drives?
