    Poor Wifi

    Hello

I'm trying to setup this new router so that i can get good wifi connection and maybe even stream HD 720 video.
    Product Number NETGEAR/WNR2000-100U -----LN24236

I'm having a big problem. Poor Wifi performance.

The best way i've tested this is doing speed tests.

On cable cat 5, i get 15 down 1 up --------tested on pc

on wifi on the laptop i get 3 down .5 up

i get similar results on my iphone and on another laptops and they are all using LN33548
i have 3 of these and they are all the same

am i missing a setting on the router or shud i expect about 20% performance from WiFi vs cable

on the software that comes with the edimax adapters, it shows statics, i did a test, tx is at 20000 and rx is 4500, which also shows alot of packet lost.

when i tested this, no microwaves cell phone etc were on and i was 2 metres from the router. i passed my ccna 3 months ago and my flat mate is giving me alot of abuse that i can't setup my owe home network, so if i'm doing some thing stupid please help. b4 i do rma s what else can i check

Forgot, also that i m useing channel 1 and running a search no one else is however i'll run useing 6 and 13 and c if that makes any difference

NB this was working great on my old dlink v615 d2 version i think (not HD but streaming video), unfortunalty i put the wrong power cable in on my last lan up and broke it.

    Re: Poor Wifi

Sounds about right tbh if its wifi g
You get slower speeds if there is a wifi g pc or ipod etc connected at the same time i think.
I use dd wrt on my wnr2000v2 and get 11mbps max down with just one wifi N adapter.
Channel 6 or 9 seem best for me.

    Re: Poor Wifi

    _alias,

I am sorry to hear about the issues you are having, can you please confirm that you have selected Up to 145Mbps or 300Mbps modes in the router Wifi setup menu? I believe 300Mbps mode will use two channels to transmit the data.

I would also recommend that you update the firmware on the router to the latest version if required.

If you have any 54g wifi devices, please disable these whilst testing the routers performance.

    Kind regards,

    Re: Poor Wifi

For what its worth, you need WPA2 (IIRC) to run full wireless N (300mbps channel bonding).
