Credit card charged on out of stock items?

Hi, I have an outstanding order for some items from Scan, which are currently out of stock. I've just noticed that my credit card has already been charged for the full cost of the items. I haven't been given a date when the items will arrive back in stock, either. Is this normal practice for Scan? Most other etailors don't charge customers until their items are despatched.

Payment is taken on placement of the order, so we can immediately allocate stock once it lands, you can cancel the order for a full refund up until the point the invoice is completed for a full refund,

Okay, thanks for clarifying this.

Can you give me any indication at all as to when new stock will arrive? I hear what you say about my having the option to cancel the order, but I think it's a bit unfair to accept my order, even though you were out of stock. When I placed the order, there was no 'out of stock' notice on the item.
