Problems with ROG Zenith Extreme
I can't seem to install the CPU. The first torx screw isn't catching - it's the same issue as described in a youtube video with the title "ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme Unboxing/Review/Fail - 1950x Threadripper TR4 Install Issues" - I can't post the link because I've not posted 5 times.
Is this a known issue? Is there something I can do to resolve it myself? If I can't resolve it I will have to return it for a replacement.
Thanks
Re: Problems with ROG Zenith Extreme
Watching the video looks like a return is your only option. Did you post in the video comments? Where did you buy the board from?
The threadripper torque wrench should have no problems with TR4 sockets - looks like Asus got a bad batch in.
If you have a choice, and don't need every feature of the Zenith Extreme, I would try for a cheaper board. Just personal opinion, wouldn't spend £500 on a board for a £1000 CPU personally.
Bad luck!
Re: Problems with ROG Zenith Extreme
I bought it from Scan. I think I'll spend tomorrow trying to screw it in before attempting a return. I wanted the Zenith Extreme because I heard good things about the memory compatibility and I already have an Asus OCPanel for temps in the front drive bay. But it might be a case of switching to the X399 Taichi because a) it's available and b) it's not a Zenith Extreme.

gzunk,
I am sorry for your issue, please submit a query via the Scan website and a member of the RMA team will be able to assist.

Ok, I saw a post elsewhere about this, seems it's a common problem with the Foxconn sockets which are not quite the same as the ones that AMD specced for.
Try this if you like - when you insert the CPU, instead of fully tightening the screws in 3-2-1 order (or whichever order it's meant to be, I forget), try one turn at a time per screw in the correct order until they all slip. This might work. Depending on if you can actually tighten that problem one - at all!
On the other hand people are reporting that experienced techs have tried everything for an hour and got nowhere, so RMA might well be your only option. But it's worth a try.

Thanks - I went all Hulk on the socket and me and my wife working together managed to get it screwed down. However, this does need to be raised with Asus so that they know that the sockets they used are a bit temperamental.
