    Asus commando possible problem?

    Hi guys.
Since receiving components from yourselves and building system it has been faultless and run without a glitch until yesturday.
I came home from work to find it had locked up.
Reset sytem, booted as far as "start in safe mode" screen then resarted again, this time without even the bios screen.
On the commando there is a post display on the rear and this is showing "chipinit" which my guess would be is chipset initialize?
No beeps, no display, no voice from the headphones, lights are on but no one is home. lol.
Have tried the clear cmos, memory swapping blah-blah-blah so now i am just about to pull it appart and rebuild but to be honest i dont think it will make any difference.

I have had a quick look through the asus forum and there does appear to be a few people suffering from this problem.

If you have any thoughts please post here and let me know.
    Cheers all.

There are a few things that can cause this mate.

    1. One of the sticks of ram are playing up - take them out and test 1 at a time, resetting cmos between each. If you have a spare stick of low spec ddr2, try it out.

    2. PSU incompatibility - its weird, but my original Enermax needed replacing because of it. You may just need a later revision. (this is the most likely I think).

Try this - take out the ram completely and leave the cmos resetting for a couple of hours with the psu turned off and unplugged.

After a couple of hours, put 1 stick back in and boot to the bios and set your memory voltage to whatever it should be and see how you go with one stick. This worked for me on a couple of occasions.

    hi clunk.
As we speak it sat here with the batt out and no ram in.
Have tried the swapping of ram slots etc.
The next stop was the batt out.
then if all else fails i will rip this rig appart and try my tagan in there.
But i will be a little suprised if it is the psu, but then stranger things have happend. lol.
I will let you know how it goes in a while.

Yep, Tagan 480w is what scan are aparently using and there is no whistle, but as I said, my rev 1 Galaxy would only post once, then on restart, it wouldnt post, whereas a Silverstone Zeus would You do realise that you are an Asus guinnea pig dont you?

    Back up and running.
The battery out job appears to have worked.
Now back at 3600mhz and has been fine all afternoon.
Lets see how long it lasts this time. lol

Just so you know for future...boot into memtest and run test 5 to check your memory is ok. If one of the sticks is playing up, this will keep happening, if they test ok, its probably just a bad overclock that it didnt like
