Send in my PC for testing?

Do you think I could send my custom built computer in for testing?
I have had it with the problem I am having and I give up trying to find out what it is as I have done endless testing.
All the major parts where bought from Scan, only peripherals, monitor, CD/DVD drives and case wern't.
I think some techies with a proper selection of extra parts is going to have a lot more luck than me.

Unfortunately not, we can only accept returns on system's that were built by ourselves, as you purchased parts then it is these parts individually that are covered under warranty.

So I would basically have to request an RMA for all my parts then and ask for them to be tested together?

You would need to go through diagnostics with our Technicians whom will decide which items to RMA, please note only items purchased from Scan can be returned to Scan.

before you send it all away how about taking it to a pc shop? may be able to shed some light on the problems and will be easier than sending all to the guys at scan who will proably say indivdually the parts are fine..

    just an idea

because I dont trust PC repair shops, they're dodgy and as far as PC world goes they just take the stupid approach i.e. lets format and if that doesn't work tell them they need a whole new computer...

tbh thats the most naive thing i have ever heard. I wiork ina pc shop and will not lie to people and help to the best of my ability, and even sometimes post on here for help. So i would say dont stereotype all shops the same.

Sorry if I offend you arbitor but my pc world statement atleast is fully justified because that is what they do generally i.e. the lazy approach everytime format and reinstall
I wasn't calling people who work in repair shops mongs though, I just hate pc world with a passion
    modd1uk I don't live near preston so...

indeed ackrite I could make a list a page long, about the only things I haven't tried is, a different windows cd, a different proccessor, different brand of ram

by elimination you would say cpu is the culprit but it can go 3hours+ prime95 doing tests that would stress the FPU (ie the bit that helps with games) and no problems

I have even got my HD properly set up to AHCI mode now too as to what iamateaf was saying in that thread

When you find games locking up, do you get any graphical glitches before that happens or is it just wham, instant hang with no warning?

If it's the former, I'd be looking at the graphics card to be the culprit, either due to faulty unit (which you've already eliminated), heat (check your temperatue readings) or bad drivers

If it's the latter, then I'd be more inclined to question your hard drive, or your system files. Given that you've tried a clean Windows Installation, how about trying a clean boot as well? Try updating DirectX?

Oh and just in case, if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows XP, the latest genuine advantage tools are definately causing problems with system stability and performance.

Instant hang with no warning and 19/20 times I don't even end up getting a BSOD to help lead me somewhere.
My temps are good too, I have had this happen on a freezing morning when everything is at like half the temp of what they're normally at for idle, so temp has no role in this at all.
I doubt it is my HD as I have tried another one plus it can pass all of SeaTools tests, except the NTFS one obviously because SeaTools doesn't support that format for that perticular test.
I have tried having the old DirectX9c (august 06?) and the most upto date (february 07?).

Ok, next peices of software most likely to interfere are

    a) Anti-virus products: If you use Norton, uninstall now, if you use any other, disable your internet connection and disable your anti-virus, then play for a few hours.

    b) Run a clean boot (been trying to find an easy to follow guide for you but at work so I'm a lil stuck), there's one over at www.elderscrolls.com on the forums but I'm not 100% sure where.

If you still get problems when running under a clean boot, then we can come back to possible hardware causes to your problem. If it runs fine under a clean boot, then it's software related (anti-virus is the most likely candidate, followed by anti-spyware)

I don't have Norton, I am using Kaspersky

I have already tried running the PC from fresh install with just the basic needs installed e.g. install windows > install drivers > install directX9c > install game > play
So no anti virus software or internet software had been installed

clean boot just disabling all but MS services in msconfig?
