Scan will most likely point you to their NDA, but the last couple of times (8800/7950GT) they've had Leadtek and XFX in stock on launch day,
ah i see, cheers
That's not the problem, the problem is the price
or both... :)
really couldnt believe it when i saw a certain other place selling them for mroe than x1950pro's and even more surprised to find how much slower the GTS is than it...lets hope the new midrange ATi cards area bit better...i think nvidia just dropped the midrange ball, surprising after them holding onto it so tightly with the 6 and 7 series :o
..and I didnt realise there were any dx10 games yet that made the x1950pro vanish from consideration....
Seriously, whats with the attitude ? Get a grip...
I dont know exactly what ATIs dx10 midrange cards will be like no, but that has no relevance to my opinion that the 8600GTS isnt a good card for the price in comparison with existing products, or my hope that the ATi cards are are more in line with expectation....you dont know what they are like either, so what makes you think my opinion is invalid?
I am sure its been mentioned at least 1 of the ATi midrange cards has a 256bit mem bus [EDIT: No, im wrong, they wont. Unless they make an R600 based midrage card. RV630 boards are all expected to be 128bit], so it executed right it should be very simple for them to offer a better card than the 8600GTS seems to be atm. Certainly seems odd to expect them to ship a vastly slower card than the x1950pro for a higher price, which is what theyd need to do to let nvidia rule the midrange with the 8600GTS. Since most stories project that R600XT will offer GTX performance at nearer 8800TS prices, they will have one whopping big performance hole if the next card down is slower than the 8600GTS. I dont se it, but we will find out soon enough...
No attitude intended only a point..
You dont actually know how much the 8600's cost yet..
The 8600 will be the cheapest way for people to be ready for DX10 if they have to upgrade now.
No one knows how any of these cards handle DX10.
You should wait until you know all the facts before you pass judgement on them. Since the benchmarks show they perform as well as they should it's only the price that will dictate how good of a purchase they will be.
I understand your point that it's not amazing from benchmarks we've seen but..it's not meant to be.
They were available to buy yesterday at a place, with prices for 3 differnet varieties...so whilst not final pricing its still a pretty large indication what they can be expected to cost, and it wasnt very pretty.
And im nto expecting it to be amazing, but it has been found to be waaaaaaaaay slower than the x1950pro, and considering where the 320MB 8800GTS places comparatively in performance and pricing, that just really wasnt what i or a lot of people was expecting from a new generation of midrange parts.
I admit I do know what the prices are likely to be so yes the GTS is going to rendered usless by the 320mb 8800 but the others should be OK for midrange cards. The prices will almost certainly drop fairly early on where the 8800's have stayed the same and actually risen slightly of late.
8800's were stupidly expensive to start with so I expect the same from the 8600's
Well one site had it for for £158 inc vat but then lowered it to £140 inc vat but then they removed it has it broke NDA haha what fools they are
I think the 8600's are jest a waste of time, nvidia need to get there heads together and sort out all the driver problems with the 8800's first before they even release any new cards, thats my option anyway.
i myself own a 8800GTX and i cant wait untill the r600 hit the market then i can install vista and have no problems with games
thats like saying the 7300 - 7600's are a waste of time from the current range..
Not everyone wants stupidily high fps @ massive resolutions...and even some that do..can't afford it.
Can't comment on products that don't exist unfortunately.
As David stated we can comment on these products due to an NDA being in place - therefore I am closing the thread
