Recommend me a Wireless Card...

Hey guys, just need some quick advice on what Wireless PCMCIA card to get for my mates laptop.

He wants it to be able to reach quite far as the house is pretty big and he also wants to use it in hte garden.

I was just looking at the DLink DWL-G630 (Here) are the maximum ranges exact for that?

A little help would be nice.

Range of wireless cards can be affected by loads of things - thickness of walls, interference, quality of other hardware etc, so maximum ranges are usually under ideal conditions, far from reality.

What is he connecting to? perhaps upgrade the aerials if its not powerful enough?

Not too sure what he's using I'll have to go round and have a look tonight.

You can always get a signal booster if you're struggling with range or coverage, pretty sure there's some available now that just go into a 3pin wall socket

I have a LinkSys PCMCIA 54G one and it's a pain to get going if you ever want Linux...
Works ok in Windows though...
