Anyone know of any means to get a physX card in a rig even if it has only 1 PCI slot and a sound card is taking up that? anything clever with firewire or something, I don't know? Games I have do support PhysX, but I really want a sound card too. Heh.

If you don't already have a sound card, why not flip the idea around; use a USB soundcard and then use the PCI slot for your PhysX card?

Both of those external ones don't seem up to spec as the internal ones are - What's that thing on ackrite's link for? It's the equivalent of a multi-socket plug for PCI or something?

Perfectionist I would highly reccomend NOT using a splitter type PCI thing like that. If you have something like an X-Fi sound card I can almost guarantee you will have problems, those things hate just having cards next to them. Some PCI slots already share the same channels, when you have a sound card sharing the same channel with something else it often causes lots of problems.
