    Suspected Faulty Item

Ordered parts for a computer for my grandad on the 24/04/2007 consisting of:
    Intel 4400 Core2Duo CPU Retail
    Gbyte GA-965QM-DS2 Mobo
    Corsair DDR2 TWINX 2GB PC6400
    430W SEASONIC S12-430 + TIES
    Recieved the parts 08/05/07
I put it all together, the system would turn on, but nothing would appear on the screen. Tested all the parts in my system and find that the motherboard is at fault.
So i make an RMA request for the motherboard on the 15/05/2007 the motherboard is collected 2 days later.
According to Scan's website they recieved the motherboard on the 8/6/2007! I know this is not true as i rang up city link to see where it was and it had been delivered on something like the 24th May. Scan aknowledge that there has been a fault with the motherboard the day they 'recieved' it and it takes them a whole 4 days to pick and ship it back to me after the invoice was printed on the 8th. So i recieved the motherboard this morning a month after recieveing it for the first time, put all the components back into in and....... SAME PROBLEM

I know that the motherboard is the problem as I tried all the other components in my rig, and Scan also confirmed that the motherboard was faulty when testing it. For all i know they just shipped the same motherboard back to me.

SO AFTER OVER 1 MONTH OF FAFFING ABOUT IM BACK TO SQUARE ONE. MY GRANDAD IS NOT A HAPPY CHAPPY AND I FOR ONE WILL NOT BE USING SCAN AGAIN ONCE THIS HAS BEEN SORTED OUT!

It should be ok now, my dad's driving me down to Bolton tomorrow and i'm taking all of the components with me just to show you that it is the motherboard that is at fault. The person on the phone said that you would test it there and then to get it sorted.

There now sayin that I have somehow bent the pins on the 775 socket

The fault is the exact same as last time and SCAN admitted that it was faulty with the last one that I sent back. I got this motherboard and just put the CPU straight into in, there was no way that I could have bent the pins.

I don't want to butt in on a lovely conversation, but how the hell did you get the CPU in if the pins were bent?

    TKH

    From Philipp

I have just looked at the board in question and spoke with RAZ who has rejected the board, Raz has informed me that you have both spoke over the phone and you told him that you placed the socket protector under the clamp as opposed to on top of the clamp.

I would say this is how you somehow damaged the socket.

Its S775 the pins are on the socket it’s very easy to put a CPU in the socket with damaged pins.

I have seen this problem before. It is easy to bend the pins. Also some people have received new boards with pins already bent so it is important to check the socket on the board before installing a cpu.

If no pins are broken it is possible to straighten out the pins in the socket and for it to work fine.

TKH I guess as you damaged the socket it would be up to you to try and straighten the bent pins. You will need a thin and strong piece of plastic and magnifying glass. It will take time and patience!

Dunno about S775 but I've used a credit card a while back to straighten pins that were a little bent on a CPU my brother gave me. If they're way over use a (small) pin to pull them up reasonably straight first. Go slowly and don't use too much force.

Ok i may have put the cover on wrong, but what reason would I have to put the cover on until I was packaging it up to send it back! RAZ then got a new motherboard and found out that the PSU was faulty, this could have been the reason for why the other motherboard wasn't working!

It could well have been the PSU but you have inflicted physical damage to the motherboard, therefore we had to reject the warranty on this.
