    HD warranty question....

Back in August 2005, I purchased a Maxtor MaxLine III 250GB SATA HD from Scan, mainly due to the free carriage offer with Hexus at the time and also because the HD came with a 5 year warranty.

Well, just today, the HD decided to give up on me. Running the MaxBlast utility returned an error code and advice to RMA the drive.

Went to access the Maxtor website only to find they've now been taken over by Seagate. Entered the details of the HD on the warranty checker and its told me to contact the place of purchase.

I still have the original Scan invoice so would I be able to return the HD to Scan for a replacement?

i had same issue, same drive but bought it at overclockers, got replacement about 10 days after returning it. Initially overclcockers said that Maxtor had to honour the warranty but after explaining the takeover issue it was sorted. So i guess Scan would, in the same way as overclockers, be responsible for a replacement.

    NB.

My drive was OEM so the retailer was repsonsible for replacement

    Top marks to Scan!

Was issued a straight replacement and sent a brand new HD of the same model and size. Whole process took 4 working days. That was with a postal strike as well.

First class aftersales (2 yearsfter intial purchase!) support.

  5. Received thanks from:
