No fault found - test again, please.

I received an email to say that my returned graphics card has not been found to be faulty.

Can I please have it re-tested ASAP, and can you tell me what was actually done to test it the first time?
Running it on 3Dmark for a few minutes probably won't show it to be faulty. It needs to be tested for a long time.

I wrote in a note that I put inside the package to request that a considerable amount of time be spent testing it due to the intermittent nature of the problems I've been having with it. I am totally convinced that the card is faulty. I also asked for it to be tested with Far Cry as this game makes the card freeze very easily.

As you can see in this thread:
    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=110912

I have already been through all the troubleshooting and the rest of my system is absolutely rock solid stable with a different graphics card which I'm now running it on.

I am spending ~1800 with you guys in this sale and really could do without the grief of so much money spent on a graphics card that does not run stable. Please help me.

    Hi

I tested this item personally with the following results...

--Ran farcry for a few hours yesterday looped(as requested)

--Ran lost planet (dx10) for a short period of 30 minutes

--Ran 3dmark06 Looping for approx 4 hours today

No issues on either of the 3 sets of tests produce any fault

Any further info please feel free to forward onto me

    Regards

I was going to say exactly the same thing. Especially that for the Lost Planet they recommend the beta drivers to be installed... ?

parad0x - what drivers are you running?

Games like lost planet are recommending the latest beta drivers - v162.22

    closed case ?

open case testing never seems to show stability issues, hence point of view emailng me and saying i must request a return to manufacture RMA bypassing scans test as i was told scan would not be able to recreate the fault as they have no specialist equipment like the board makers have to show fault.

I know its a bit late now but with problems like this its always worth going through the makers support process 1st, if all there suggestions throw a blank you have ammo to send to scan with the card so they dont waste there time on it, or in my case an email to send with the card to say they have tried all the standard tests and it now needs to go on there test bed to confirm any problems.

I have been through several driver revisions including the 162.18 betas (I am on a fresh install of XP Pro 32bit).

Having read what you've said there I appreciate the length of time you've spent testing it, so thankyou for that, but this leaves me at a loss as to what the problem actually is. I've spent weeks trying all sorts of suggestions, the only reason I requested an RMA is because it was pretty much my last resort; I don't tend to give up easily, I have literally tried everything I could think of to fix it, and have trawled countless forums.

My original plan was to go through EVGA's own RMA service but I found out that I have to ship it to Germany which is hardly ideal.

So I guess I'll be charged for this, yeah? Will I just have to hope EVGA can help out? I don't know what to do.

I've gotta say, I feel sorry for parad0x, I have no doubt that he WAS having problems but I also believe that Scan couldn't recreate them. Take the weird ass problem I had with a friend's build, sound worked under XP SP1 and didn't under SP2. Chances are, you send the motherboard off to someone else and they'll never be able to recreate it!

Hope you can find a way to get it worked out parad0x, I'd suggest that you try wiping your system down and trying to reinstall windows again, maybe try loading some bits in a different order (from my own experience, I'd suggest NOT letting windows install drivers until you've done all the Windows updates)

    Thanks Lucio.

I'm thinking maybe I should try again with XP64. When I initially got the machine I started with XP64 immediately and just set up everything as I normally do, not expecting to encounter problems etc.

When all the games were crashing regularly and badly, as in BSODs and all sorts of lockups, I started checking out the beta drivers as I was just using the latest officially-stable drivers from nV's site. At the time, there was a beta driver for XP32 that was much newer than the last beta driver for XP64, so I wiped the system and tried XP32 plus the newer betas. This helped a little, reduced the frequency of crashes and completely cured the BSODs that came right after them, but it still happened occasionally.

Now there are new sets of drivers for both 64bit and 32bit Windows XP... I guess I could pray that 64bit+new drivers will help or maybe even Vista (though Vista has problems of its own that I keep hearing about).

    *sigh*

Paradox also know how you feel m8,

I had the same problem with my 8800 xfx ultra xxx.

Scan tested it 3dmark and lost planet, in an open case, on windows vista = NFF

For me it freezes in all 3d games but I use WIN XP, I never had any problems with 3dmark.

The open case suggests it could be heat but with xtra cooling i've managed to get the card down to 56c idle 74 load which for this card is very good - but it still freezes.
I run xp corp 32bit and tried every driver under the sun - same result.

Down clocking the card seems to remedy my problem.

Hope EVGA are better than xfx support, after inital promise there support seems to have dried up for me They have told me in the meantime to downclock the card for better stability.

XFX did tell me though that scan didn't test the card throughly enough, but for you it seems they did test it well.

If your card is an 8800 overclocked there is loads of use with the same issue, however your the first evga case i've seen.

Don't know what to say other than you are not alone and its very frustrating laying down all that money. I'm upgrading to an E6850 / striker extreme next week and hope that somehow magically it will solve my problem but I fear trhe worst.

Funnily enough, I'm on a Striker Extreme and QX6800.

The rest of my machine is just perfect, it's rock solid stable so far. I love the motherboard and processor, its a very fast setup, was totally delighted after upgrading from and old Athlon XP. But it's just such a sick feeling to think that there might be a problem with something this expensive.

I'm really disappointed that Scan haven't managed to reproduce this, I'll just have to hope that it's a software problem. I'm pleased that EVGA offer a 10 year warranty on this card but can hardly bear the thought of shipping something this expensive to Germany.

Do eVGA offer the 10 yr service to all customers or is that just in the USA ?

I know thats the case with xfx - the North American customers get the full monty - x amount of years, ability to change cooling, bios etc etc
European's get just basic 1 yr no modifcations allowed.

As for your sick feeling i totally know. All that cash for something that doesn't do what it says on the tin.
Lets hope it is a driver or bios issue and gets fixed.

But i've just ben telling myself this. My xfx card was £480 - less than other 8800 ultra oc's and the clock speeds are considerably more, so even if I downclock it by a small margin to get stabilty it still is the fastest single card around.

Its a tough call wether to send it back - but when XFX eventually get back to me I think I will send mine back - just to have peace of mind more than anything...............

From what I'm reading, USA gets a lifetime warranty, and Europe gets 10 years warranty due to legislations or something about a maximum of 10 years warranty allowed.

    Ah thats good,

I'd maybe think about sending it back, or first maybe get scan to test it again - on XP though - as it looks like they used vista (DX10) maybe it would exhibit the faults then ????

If you do go down the route of back to eVGA you can at least know its in the hands of the best regarded customer services in the industry !!!!!!!!!

Anyway hope you get it sorted, lets us know how you go on.

Well, if it's okay with Scan, could it maybe be tested with an XP 32 bit installation in a closed case for a while today, and if nothing crops up dispatch it tonight so I receive it tomorrow?

I don't want to waste your time but peace of mind is something I could really do with right now.

Will I have to pay for your time spent testing it and delivery charges? If so, how much and where do I pay?

    Hey me again

I can test overnight tonite if you wish looping farcry or 3dmark 06 on xp32? I would run it all day today but im pretty snowed under so its not really possible at the moment....which would mean your card/replacement card would be despatched tomorrow

If its found to be faulty of course there will be no charges

Please confirm and advise of any other testing procedures youd like to be done so we can best find the fault!
