Re: What P35 Mobo for my new G0 Q6600?

The USB ports are lacking a little on Abit but as most cases have two on the front anyway that makes 6..and if you're using more than 6 usb ports i'd have to ask what the hell you were using them for lol.

Two on the front/top for usb pens, two at the back for mouse and keyboard (if seperate), im running out of ideas

I use one for my monitors usb hub .. thats 5 lol

The IP-35 is pretty much my perfect mobo...shame i don't have one..do have the box for one though lol

    Overclocking capabilities
That my 7950GX2 and my Tuniq Tower 120 fit!

    And that's it.
Then IP35 or DS3P would be a good choice I think.
    And your hardware will fit.
Regarding overclocking, they both do well.
After question of preference... to me abit

but as said it can take up to 12 usb ports..ok you need to add a usb braket but thats a small issue imo.

The P5K delux and IP-35pro are very similar..in fact specs wise theres no much different between them.
They will both overclock fantastically.. much further than most of us will ever push them.
Major difference is if something goes wrong..abit have great support and even have a care forum just like scans (this one)

Asus..have a phone..maybe..and you do have to wonder how much they pay the person on the other end of the lone line though.
Obviously for the first year you deal with scan (you retailler) but there after you in the hands of your manafacturer

Re: What P35 Mobo for my new G0 Q6600?

The original post asked for the best board from these 5 ....

    Gigabyte GA P35C-DS3R
    Gigabyte GA P35-DS3P
    Gigabyte GA P35-DS4
    Asus P5KC
    Asus P5K
    Abit IP-35

So why are we discussing P5K Deluxes, & IP35 Pros, why not throw in a Blitz Formula, or if money is no object how about the Dfi LanParty P35-T2R. This thread is drifting into what's the best P35 mobo.

Re: What P35 Mobo for my new G0 Q6600?

I've got the same question as the OP really - and I'm looking at the same boards. Why aren't people keen on the vanilla Asus P5K? I believe it lacks RAID, but I'm not fussed about software RAID anyway. Surely it's 2nd PCI-E x16 slot is an advantage?

    Thanks,

    Sam

If you want to use the latest cards, then yeah, its the 'cutting edge' so to speak (but by how much depends on the situation)
Thing is most people come to the conclusion that SLI / X-fire just aint worth it.
More money, more heat, not double the speed increase, and when the next generation arrives, normally one of those cards beats the previous in an X-fire / SLI configuration.

If you want it for another screen output, then its doubtful you would be limited by the lane difference, unless you are running something which uses multiple cards to render 3d at high capacity to multiple screens; If so, id love to know what

I'd also vote for the Abit boards

had numerous boards by abit over the years including many NF7-S 2.0's before switching to the Asus A8N-SLI deluxe only due to having no abit SLI boards when building my system.

The Asus one is good, but I still prefer Abit and my new system which I'm finalising the bits of to build is based on the IP35 Pro from abit

Of the boards listed I like the Asus P5KC, I can't recommend the Gigabyte GA P35C-DS3R because I've just RMA'd one of those, could be just bad luck but I wouldn't have another. The Abit IP35 I have no knowledge of, if it's anything like the Abit IP35 Pro it should also be a good choice. Would not recommend the Vanilla Asus P5K now because the the Asus P5KR is out for about a fiver more with better RAID options. Basically go for the brand you like best. I chose the Asus P5KC because it works well with Core 2 Duo's, you have the option to upgrade to DDR3 when the prices drop without changing motherboards, and it's getting excellent results with the new Q6600 retail G0's, so if at some stage you decide to go for a quad core it should serve you well. There's an option in the Asus BIOS to counter-act Vdroop, but even with the option enabled you will still get some Vdroop, but this is typical of most boards in this price range, a simple pencil mod to the P5KC will fix this ... bottom line is most of those boards listed will perform OK.

    Asus P5KC benches with a Q6600 (G0) retail.

That board (the Asus P5KC) looks good and it's only a couple of quid more expensive but ... it's on pre-order and I am not going to wait for it to appear if the G0s are released before

I reckon the P5KC will be back on before the Q6600's appear.
