    Viewsonic VX922

    Hi

I bought a VX922 monitor on 3/08/2006, My m8 also bought one a week or two later.

Both of these monitors seem like they have developed the same fault or very simlar, but his is now inoperatable.

My monitor currently works but if I reboot, go full screen or change resolution then the monitor led will start flashing. At which point I will have to turn the monitor off a leave it for 10-30 min, I can then turn it back on a and use it without any problems. Until I do one of the above again.

My m8's monitor will not turn on at all.

He contacted ViewSonic 3+ weeks ago, they said VX922 was out of stock and would phone when they had stock. I don't think they phoned him, but he contacted them and they are now offering 1940W's which he doesn't want, since he does not like look of 19" widescreens and size of the screen is totally disproportionate to 1680 x 1050.

I contacted them today and they said they would phone me when they had VX922 in stock but said they had no details on when they would have stock of the VX922s.

They're not shipping VX922's any more from what we can gather, but they're not EOL.

Has anyone else had problems like this?

Also could we return it to scan for replacement?

What other options would there be for us?

    Hi

Due to the length of time you have now had the monitor i'm afraid we would be unable to accept the monitor back for replacement you would need to deal directly with Viewsonic. However if you feel you are being given the runaround by them please feel free to PM me with your Viewsonic ref number and i will contact them on your behalf to see if anything can be done.

    Regards

Depending on the exact nature of the fault, and especially if it has been something that's been there since the goods were supplied but has only just shown up, then the liability may well still lie with Scan. Goods must last for what a "reasonable" man would consider reasonable, and it's the retailer that is liable, not the manufacturer.

Matteh .... IF the fault is one that existed when you bought the goods but has only just shown up, such as sub-standard components that have now failed, then you have a claim against Scan for up to 6 years. But there's two gotchas :-

    1) It is for you to prove that the fault did exist when the goods were supplied. That probably entails testing by independent engineers.

    2) How long would it be reasonable to expect a monitor to last?

Just because you have a claim for up to 6 years doesn't mean all goods would be expected to last that long. It may be that three or four years is "reasonable". Or two. Or .... ???

If you have a manufacturer's warranty that still covers you, then your best bet is, as Mark says, to go direct to the manufacturer under that warranty. If you don't have such a warranty, then you MIGHT still have a claim against the seller under the Sale of Goods Act, but it'll be for you to prove the case.

Why dont you contact Viewsonic yourself?
I got a 'duff' monitor from Scan last week and it was debatable from Scans POV if it was faulty or not.

Viewsonic agreed with me and my brand new replacement will be with me tomorrow morning.
