Re: 80GB Hard Drive - which is best?

any particular reason why it must be 80gb?

For a small fast quiet drive, I have two Western Digital 1600YS (Raid Edition) in Raid0 which are brilliant and couldn't recommend them enough. 160gb and something like £35 - £40.

Re: 80GB Hard Drive - which is best?

I have never tried Raid0 before.. is it scary? does it always cause problem or headache?

    How fast is it?

I only need about 80GB hd because I hardly go over 40GB..

I keep most of my documents/moviess, etc on data drive's.

I've had Maxtor DiamondMax+2 80Gb for about 5yrs now, very reliable and quiet =). But Maxtor has been taken over by Seagate now.

Why not WD Raptor than? Fastest and I heard lots of people keep this drive as a system drive - a bit expensive but ... you get what you paying for

Re: 80GB Hard Drive - which is best?

    buy THIS
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=561030
    or summit similar.

which is 320 gig.....and then partition it, so the first partition you make is 80 gig.
Use that partition for your fast stuff. Then use the rest of the drive for your other data

See my link below for my crazy partition theory thread

Not quite what? Oh you mean quiet.

Anyway Samsung spinpoints are widely regarded as being the quietest.
