    44-pin IDE cable?

Tried to post on the scan website enquiry form but proceed button didn't work...

I'm looking to buy an IDE notebook drive + matching 44-pin to 44-pin cable. Can find plenty of drives (why so few 1.8" drives btw? Am going to have to settle for 2.5" now), but no suitable IDE cable. Don't Scan stock these?

    Re: 44-pin IDE cable?

I've never seen a cable like this. I have several 40 to 44pin calbles for connecting a 2.5@ drive to a PC, but with laptops you usually connect them directly to the main board.

Whydo you need such a cable?

I've just checked with the relevant purchasing person as he's sat near me and we are trying to source these but none of our usual cable suppliers has these available at the present time.

That doesn't make sense though. A motherboard is going to have a 40pin connector and the drive will have 40pin interface with the last 4 pins for power. So surely a regular 2.5" to 3.5" cable is required for that senario?

Unless you have a weird motherboard/controller card hat has 44pin connectors and is supplying the power as well, then I just can't imagine why you would need a 44pin to 44pin cable.

    Re: 44-pin IDE cable?

My mistake - I read it as 44 to 40 pin adaptor.

Sorry... I was kept awake by a house alarm blaring out until 3 this morning.

Unless the OP also meant 44pin to 40pin as well

    Re: 44-pin IDE cable?

I've got a motherboard with a 44-pin IDE connector, it's a small form-factor board, less than 10x10cm. Trying to keep the entire format down as small as possible, hence looking for 2.5" drive.

I've found a suitable cable at www.linitx.com without too much shipping overhead, so may purchase from there.

Those solid-state drives do look awesome, but a bit outside my current pricerange (and I need more storage than that, 60-80GB minimum).

    Re: 44-pin IDE cable?

Cool. I take it the board is nanoITX. I didn't realise they came with 44pin headers, although it makes sense due to the space costraints on those things. Although I would have thought SATA would be much more sensible.

Scan are fantastic for most things, but linitx can't be beat for obscure SFF components and accessories

    Re: 44-pin IDE cable?

it's like nano-itx, but based on the AMD geode platform. This board: http://www.dsl-ltd.co.uk/productspec...odID=DSL-800LX

Running with Windows CE, great performance.

The mini-itx cables look a tad expensive, but lots of other neat stuff there.

    Re: 44-pin IDE cable?

Thanks, really enjoying it. It's the size of a 3.5" floppy disk and completely passively cooled, got some great plans for it I almost feel bad adding a hard disk, would love to go completely solid-state. Got a touch screen to go with it, will make a nice little living-room device.
