    Xfx Rma - 167331 - 168912

    RMA 167331 - RMA 168912

    [rant]

I'm am not very happy with the RMA and scan this time, no email notification telling me it was being sent out.

    Things missing from inside box

Got 3 scan receipts 2 white and 1 pink

    Artifacting angain

Rang up and got another rma number and told him all this but he wont pick it up and wants me to pay yet another £8 P+P to send it to you.

This makes my 5/6 XFX that has to be return, at this rate I feel like billing Scan for the P+p because they wont pick it up plus it's going to be another 3 weeks before I hear any thing

Plus every time I send it back it's another £8 P+P and packaging it all the time, it's a good thing I've got cardboard laying around but not an endless supply of money at least I can send it back better then they can send it to me

    [/rant]

    All XFX

3 7900GT PCI-E and 2 7950GT PCI-E any guess on what my sixth card will be

Still no response from Scan then, your silence confirms my original thought then

I don't get it? Why weren't you given an equivalent, different brand replacement 3rd or 4th time round? Or did you specifically want XFX?

No I did not want XFX but it was Scan who sent it out they did not offer at the time any other card

Don't worry though just had a phone call from Wesley at Scan and he offered me a Leadtek version instead before that he said he was going to pick my card up via citylink but I had already sent it yesterday

Good luck with the leadtek - sounds like you've had a rough deal with XFX.

I did myself with my XFX 8800 ultra xxx - never buying xfx again !!!!!!!

    Re: Xfx Rma - 167331 - 168912

Is it heat generated problems with those XFX?
The 7900GS-GT stock coolers are somewhat ineffective, a nice heavy lump of copper but a laughable (and very noisy) fan. My 79GS-XXX idled mid 50s and got to low70s under benchmarking, not to mention the RAM temps, the back of the card was barely touchable. I am sure it would artifact too if I let it continue like that.
Anyway replacing that with a northq or zalman and flashing the fan speed 50% 2d and 95% 3d now it idles 41-44 and under bench 45-48, the card under load is actually colder than a 76gt idling

I know we shouldnt have to do this tho to make our cards run at acceptable temps and to stop them failing, but I just cannot stand having components running around critical temps in my PC and can fix it for a few pounds/few minutes effort.

I had similar issues with XFX (although not to the extent you have).
Lets just say thank goodness I brought from Scan

Seems a lot of XFX cards are being hit by this *sigh*

My XFX 8800 GTX has been faultless but I've heard nothing good about the 79 series.

    Re: Xfx Rma - 167331 - 168912

The EOL XFX7900GS I just got from Scan has a bigger heatsink and bigger fan than the XXX version had. I had a weird niggle with this new 79GS tho, initially it wont benchmark failing on 3d fill rate single or multi texturing in 3dmark2001SE and the video tests of pcmark05. Tried drivers above and below the one I was using, then the ones that came with it to no avail. Swapped it into another machine and still had same issue (it played games just fine, just crashed during this texturing fill rate test of benchmarks... the screen goes blank and fan speed hits what sounds like 100% and have to power off the PC to get video display again.)

Anyway I left it looping some game demo for a couple of hours, and when I tested benchmark again it was fine... wth?!! Powered off, let it cool and power on and try again it benchmarks ok... Really weird eh? So its working just fine for now, but who knows what will happen with it.
