The best cpu cooler for q6600 GO?

I was just wondering which (air) cooler would be best to use for overclocking a q6600 (GO stepping) to around 3.4ghz (but not aiming for any more than 3.6gHz)

To anyone thats got this cpu, what coolers are you using and what temps you getting idle and load? If would help if you could tell me what voltage you used also!

    thx

I have 9 Quads on 24/7 at 100% running Distributive Computing projects - the room gets a little warm as you can imagine - its currently at 24C ambient.

I have a variety of high-end coolers, but the best is the Thermalright Ultra-120 extreme - here is a screeny of a Q6600 G0 at 3.4GHz:

Hey, thanks for those screenshots! Those temps look fine and its also the same speed im aiming to get too!

I think i will get the Thermaltight Ultra-120 extreme.

It the Thermalright Ultima 90 that's the good one.
The Ultra 90 is the old one and is fairly average cooling wise.

It will happily go faster than that, but as mine run 24/7 at 100% I go for long term stability and component longevity rather than out-and-out speed.

Re: The best cpu cooler for q6600 GO?

Any top model from Thermalright or Scythe will be good at the end of the day

    3.0GHz is easy.
3.4GHz will require some more voltage - but can be managed with sub 60C temps
3.6GHz is readily achievable by pumping in voltage, but I reckon you need either active cooling, or a very lucky processor sample, to get it running 24/7 stable. (I'm sure you don't want a fried Q6600 after just a few weeks...)

Good luck and let us know how it goes

Hopefully this will be helpful to you; we have posted an article comparing many of the top CPU coolers recommended in our Best CPU Cooler Performance - Q1 2008 roundup.

All of the coolers used the same fan so that CPU cooler performance was isolated, and all of the products were stock (not lapped or modified). You may find different performance results by using a different fan or modifying the product.

    Scythe Mine ftw!
    only 2'C hotter at 3.5GHz..
    very good cooler

edit: i've also just noticed the voltage on that photo, it sometimes drops to 1.216v but it sits at 1.256v for 99% of the time..

zerotherm nirvana is very good, keeps up with the massive thermalright ones and is much lighter too

I'd definitely advise reading the link above ^^^. It's a nice roundup.

It seems that there are now better + cheaper coolers out there than the thermalright ultra extreme 120 now.

One thing tho, I would prefer they used normal pictures not the flash ones to show the charts
