well done finding something to back up your posts
3 ezcools, one deer(?), one seasonic and hiper all dead in one post... poor guys

It is a shame however that you cannot talk/post in a more rational manner and I will not be drawn by your slurs.

Anyway I am not arguing that these EZCools are the best ever PSUs and we all should use them, I was making a point that used in a relatively low power consumption budget rig they seem to be fine. Of course they have more risk to fail and will never have such good quality components, this is evidenced by their price point. I wholly agree with all here that using a reknowned decent PSU, especially with a build of reasonable value and/or higher power draw, is common sense.

BTW if you really want to fry an EZCool on cam there is no need to buy one, I can donate an old one and lets crank it up to see what it will take

The specs on the EZCOOL PSUs just do not add up to the rated Wattage. With this in mind, whats the point of stress testing a PSU that you know will give in.

The best way to do it if you really want one is for me to buy an EZCOOL PSU, i will send it to you so you can put it in your main rig, load your PC up, put a web cam on it and then we can all watch as the firework display begins.

What actually happened with ur 700w EZCool?

I have or have had 400, 450 and 550 versions all running fine, quiet and fairly cool with no problems. Has anyone else had problems with these and what caused it? You make me nervous of mine now
I bought an EZ Cool 450 which sparked, burned out, and took my motherboard (at least) with it after about 3 hours. The company I bought it from refuse to refund me and will only replace the unit, despite it having a 1 yr warranty. I am not going to risk a replacement.
    Do Not Use These PSUs!!

Replace it with a proper brand

Its easy to do, and branded does not mean expensive

Totally agreed. You can buy PSU's like corsair and enermax but they come at a cost(justified though!) so if you cant afford that, look for the FSP 700W to come on today only for <£30(normally there) or buy an Xclio PSU as they are very sturdy CWT stuff.

    Re: EZ-Cool PSUs

My EZ Cool bought my whole system to a halt.. A few sparks, a smell of burning technology, then no cpu fan, no power to the disks, nothing.

I replaced it with an OCZ stealth X stream 500w for about £35 and now the CPU fan is turning, the disks are humming, and I hear the beep of it getting through POST, but alas my monitor isn't coming on!

I sent my EZ Cool back to the shop where they are telling me that they have tested it and it's working fine!!
How is this possible? Please someone let me know if this is possible as I feel like I am being B.S'd in a big way.

    Cheers T

    Re: EZ-Cool PSUs

There's a chance it is still outputting power but it might be out of spec ie too high/low voltages or high ripple. Both can kill PC components. The shop probably only tested if it would switch on, not how clean the output power was. Maybe it took out your GPU?

Cheers m8, that sounds about right.. Can u buy PSUs that have surge protection, or do I have to buy a li'l GPU surge protector thingy? T

    Re: EZ-Cool PSUs

If you buy a branded PSU you shouldn't need an internal surge protector - the EZCool might have damaged your GPU (I'm just guessing it's that) because they aren't much good. I have a surge protector power strip myself but even this isn't really needed as good PSUs have MOVs built in for surge suppression. OCZ PSUs are generally good and provide stable voltages so you should be fine with your new PSU. If something isn't working, try a friends PSU if possible and if that doesn't work the the EZCool is likely to have done some permanent damage, unfortunately. If you bought all of your components from the same shop there's a chance you can get anything faulty replaced but component warranties generally don't cover damage caused by bad power.
