    Problems with PSU!

Recently i made an order with Scan and bought the Tagan TG-900-U33 900 watt power supply. The order was delivered on Wednesday 28th Nov, my PC was built on Friday 30th Nov. The PC seemed fine friday night and saturday however on sunday the PC just turned itself off, when i tried to turn it back on it made a funny noise and started to smell of electrical burning.

I phoned Scan Monday 3rd Dec about this problem and they said i would have to deal with the manufacturer for the warranty (a company called nano point). I was expecting Scan to deal with the problem and send me a new PSU simply because of the amount of time i had the PSU before it went wrong.

Now because i really need my PC i can't wait ages for a new PSU to be sent to me from warranty, So Monday i bought a Hyper PSU from a local retailer.

I recieved my RMA from nano point today so i sent the PSU back to them costing me £10, they will test it see a fault and send me a new one that i dont need so im around £110 out of pocket. Ive always ordered from Scan and never had a problem but this ordeal seems too much.

Maybe someone from scan can tell me whether this is how service from Scan should be?

    Regards

    Steve.

    Re: Problems with PSU!

Most items without stated onsite terms seem to be RTB warranty (at consumers cost) whether to Scan or Manufacturer. Same as if you buy from the high street, you still have to take it back to the shop you bought it from at your expense.

Just be thankful you didnt buy it from Aldi or the like and have it fail after 30 days, then you get to send it back (at ur own expense) to somewhere in Germany....

    Re: Problems with PSU!

Chances are that scan told you to deal with nanopoint because it would be quicker, you - nano, rather than you - scan - nano. You should only do this if the shop (scan) tells you to, if you go direct to the manu (or representative) without auth from orginal supplier you lose some consumer protection.

Had you wanted to, you could have insisted that scan deal with this, as your contract is with scan and not nanopoint.

Usually within a year rma's go back to the shop where brought, after to the manu.

As you had had the psu for less than a week (most rep. companies give at least a working week from delivery), you could have invoked the DSR act, though not the honest way of dealing with it, you would have only been out of pocket for the return delivery.

When you get your new psu, stick it in your pc, and either keep the Hyper as a spare, or sell it (on ebay, or hexus (when you have enough posts, which is I think 25).

    Re: Problems with PSU!

It is not always up to scan to decide about replacement under warranty, in such case they need to send it to outside service, because even if they tested they are not authorized for replacement etc. With some items they can decide them self and replace for customer (a very quick option) and send it. Scan and Manufacturer will deal with it later just between them. So I think, scan can't be blamed for this and the service they provide is really efficient and quick (from my own experience).

TBH I would have been extremely disappointed with Scan if that was the answer they gave me on a 5 day old PSU.

    Me too!
Surely that shoudlve been sent back to Scan and they should issue the replacement as soon as fault is confirmed.
Your contract is with Scan and i wouldve expected a new unit and reimbursement for postage. Although it isnt Scans fualty the unit was bad, its not yours either (by the sounds of it) and therefore, in all this, you are the only one that has lost out.

    Re: Problems with PSU!

    New update!!

After sending the PSU to nano point on tuesday, i recieved an e-mail wednesday from nano point saying please return the faulty unit back to scan for refund or replacement as we have no stock of this item (this is what i wanted to do in the first place.). However this was obviously too late as tuesday i received RMA to send back to nano point and thats what i did tuesday.

I phoned scan again to find out what to do next and a guy called markr who was very helpful said i could have just returned the unit back to scan!!! I asked why was i told that i had to send it to nano point and he said because it would be quicker, but i would have prefered to deal with Scan direct.

    Well this is now ongoing.......................

    Hi

Just tried to give you a call on your landline however there was no answer. Just to let you know i have spoke with Nanopoint today and arranged for the PSU to be returned back to SCAN directly. They are going to send it to us in todays shipment.

Once recieved back by us booked in, tested and confirmed to be faulty it will be refunded in full back onto the card you purchased the goods on originally.

Apologies for the problems you had with this PSU Tagan are usually very good!

Please PM me or feel free to ring on 0870 755 4747 if you have any further problems/questions.

    Regards
