scythe mini ninja (LN19745) question about fans

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

i currently have a REV A ninja and its touching the side of my case window which is rather annoying and was looking at one of these to to replace it. currently i am using it with a 120mm fan, will that cause any problems mounting onto the new mini given that its not as tall etc?

the reason i want to use a 120mm fan is that i can run it at 7v to cut the noise down.

Get the Scythe Mine instead then.
It uses a 100mm fan and is totally inaudible.

Re: scythe mini ninja (LN19745) question about fans

Umm Blitzen, while I do agree with you about the fan on the Mine, it is the same height as the Ninja (it's roughtly the same size as the ninja without fan) so it's not really a viable replacement.

While you should be able to work something out to hold a 120mm fan to the mini-ninja, it doesn't come with any 120mm clips only 92mm and 80mm. So mounting a 120mm fan is going to require some creativity

In all honesty I think that's going to be your best bet as there are no tower coolers designed for 120mm fans under 150mm in height AFAIK
the alternative is to go with something like the Scythe Andy Samurai Master or Thermalright SI-128 as while they still use 120mm fans they are shorter than tower coolers.

Re: scythe mini ninja (LN19745) question about fans

I thought both the mini and standard ninja were the same size other than height, so won't the clips that he is already using work?

That said you could get the thermalright ultima90 which is fairly small and a fantastic performer, or just use a decent 92mm fan since the ninja's don't need that much air passed over them to be affective.

thats basically what i'm wondering: if the 120mm clips i have will provide enough tension whilst attached to the mini to hold up a 120mm fan.

Re: scythe mini ninja (LN19745) question about fans

Should do, only problem I could for see is unballenced distribution due to it not being the same height.
As staffsMike said the only differnce between them is the height.

Oh and the thermalright ultima90 while a good cooler is 159.7mm high with a 120mm fan attached.
At least it is with a 120mm fan connected the way it's shown, I'll have to double check if you can mount a 120mm fan with the clips upside down so that the fan sticks out below the cooler (although I think the munting screw gets in the way )

Re: scythe mini ninja (LN19745) question about fans

Umm I think I've confused you there, I'll try to be clearer.

The only differnce between the ninja and the mini-ninja is the height of the main body of fins and the size of fan it comes with.
On the ninja the main body of fins is a cube 110mm x 110mm x 110mm and comes with a 120mm fan as shown
On the mini ninja it's a shorter 70mm(roughtly) x 110mm x 110mm and comes with an 80mm fan as shown

the wire clip that is used to hold a 120mm fan on the ninja will fit on the mini-ninja the only problem might come from the fact that the fan is nearly twice the height of the main body of the cooler, which will probably mean a good deal of it will stick up above the cooler (depending on how much clearence you have below the main body of the cooler)
However as they both have the same base I advise you to check on your current ninja how much clearence you have (ie how much of the 120mm fan you can get below the level of the lowest fin) if it's 10mm or more the 120mm clips should be fine.
Just be aware that the 120mm fan is still going to be sticking up a good way even with the shorter mini-ninja.

The Thermalright Ultima90 is a seperate cooler all together, the clips are differnt from the ninja ones, although it does come with clips for a 92mm fan or a 120mm fan, the clips make the height position of the fan on the cooler fixed.
The main body of fins on it form a block 90mm high x 115mm x 55mm as shown
I've just doubled checked the mounting Screws on the Ultima90 do get in the way so the only way to mount a 120mm fan on it is with it sticking out above the top of the cooler giveing it an overall height of 159.7mm with a 120mm fan attached, which is taller than the standard ninja.

Don't get me wrong for the size of it the Ultima90 is a great cooler and in theory should be better than the mini-ninja (larger surface area) however it is only "lower" profile if you use a 92mm fan
Still taller than the mini-ninja but shorter than the standard ninja.

I still think looking at the Scythe Andy Samurai Master (125mm high with fan) or Thermalright SI-128 (116.5mm high with fan) are a better option for lower profile coolers

    That scan sell
