BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
Hi All,
On Saturday I bought from Scan a Samsung SH-S203P/BEBN 20x DVD±R, 12x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, SATA,Lightscribe, Black, OEM inc Nero (LN21399).
When installing I get to my username/password entry and all ok there. Enter into Windows, just after Everest boots into the system tray I get a BSOD thats only on briefly and mentions something to do with IRQ then resets the PC and I get into a never ending cycle. Once removing the drive all runs ok.
I've tried removing all drives bar the boot drive and still get the error.
Any ideas? My PC spec is listed below. Thanks for any help able to give.
O/S : Windows Vista Home Premuim
CPU : AMD Athlon 4600 + (Overclocked each core to 2.5GHz)
Mobo : Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe
Memory : 4 x 512 MB Corsair CM2X512-5400C4
PSU : 550w
HDD : Boot Drive - 160GB SATA Maxtor
Storage - 320GB SATA WD
Storage - 169GB IDE Maxtor
CD/DVD : Generic CD-DVD RW
The error is possible an IRC equal or less, or something with the IRQ. Unable to say as it dumps the memory fast and reboots. I have used Memtest to make sure all memory in PC are fine and no errors found on that. Is it possible the power supply?
Thanks in advance.
Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
Just a thought - have you got AHCI enabled in the bios - sometimes having that enabled on a SATA DVD drive can cause problems
Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
Just had a look in BIOS and can't see any options for AHCI.
Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
Sorry - just checked and you have an Nvidia based board. Try disabling NCQ in the Nvidia SATA controller
Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
Had a look in Device manager an no options in the sata controller to disable ncq. Some forum has said the following :-
"To disable NCQ your drives must be in AHCI (native SATA) mode. You then need to go into your BIOS, change your SATA mode to IDE. You will then need to reinstall Windows as it will no longer be bootable.
If you are already in IDE mode, you must change to AHCI mode in the BIOS, and then reinstall Windows."
This is something I would really like to try and avoid doing if at all possible.

Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
Have you updated the motherboard drivers and BIOS?
Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
Got it to finally work without any BSOD.
I had tried an BIOS update as LegacyOne suggested but that didnt help (but at least now can support newer AMD CPU's :))
I tried moving both my SATA HDD into different slots and same with the Lightscribe. Then I noticed a 7th SATA port on the mobo which is control by the JMicron settings in the BIOS. I thought what have I got to lose?
I did as stated above and changed it from ACHI to IDE and it works perfectly without any problems :)
Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
just wondering did u install any ACHI Raid driver for your vista
Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
Didn't when I installed it. So that maybe why I cant use it on ACHI.
Re: BSOD Installing New SATA Lightscribe
yeah its worth a try, i have problem entering into fresh install VISTA with an ACHI enabled HD, but after I selected the drivers during installation everything is sorted
