Question Replacement Freezer 7 Pro Push Pin?

I purchased a Freezer 7 Pro end of July 2007.

One of the push pins has been accidentally damaged. Would SCAN able to get me a replacement push pin?

    Thanks.

Re: Replacement Freezer 7 Pro Push Pin?

sorry but we do not stock replacement push pins, due to the price of these we do not stock B Grade so we could not source a spare part. would the pins off the stock cooler not fit?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I guess one off the stock cooler will fit however I dont have a stock cooler as my cpu is an OEM.

Re: Replacement Freezer 7 Pro Push Pin?

If you have no joy you could just replace the freezer pro 7 with this cheap alternative
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

Mine performs considerably better then my old freezer pro.

Re: Replacement Freezer 7 Pro Push Pin?

I am not using the Freezer 7 anymore but want to replace the broken push pin so I can keep it as a backup. I have now found somewhere selling spare push pins.

Re: Replacement Freezer 7 Pro Push Pin?

thanks for the reply but unfortunately the ones i require are much smaller - a simple 'pin' shape with a spring on it. goes through a 'foot' on the heatsink, then through the motherboard and opens out so the heatsink is held in place.

if anyone knows where i can find some spares...

Do you mean like the northbridge type of pushpins?
if so buy the cheapest zalman NB47 or whatever it is for £2 or so and have 2 with a spare sink...

Pray tell, if you can, how to remove the push pins. At least one of mine is spread open too much to go into the mounting hole. Annoying--using the cooler that came with my Q9550, but it's noisy and not at all as good as the F7 Pro (had that on E6750 until last weekend).
    Thanks

Rotate the black part clockwise while holding the white part. You will see some small black tabs on the side of the black part which stop you lifting it off completely. Use a thin flat screwdriver to the lift the tab so you can remove the black part fully.

Re: Replacement Freezer 7 Pro Push Pin?

I would recommend the thermalright kit that has been suggested by luckyNV up near the top.

First thing I did was removed the push-pins on my freezer 7 cooler and replaced them with the bolt-through kit when building my Q6600 based rig. Not only is it a better connection, it's also a more firmer fitting and has helped lower my temps by a few degrees.

My Rig is also moved quite a bit from place to place and having the bolt-through kit on it ensures that the cooler doesn't move during this as there is nothing worse than getting to a LAN or similar only to find that your coolers come loose on the drive down.

As for taking them off, I just grabbed 2 pairs of pliars and held each end securely and twisted them while I pulled and they easily came off. I dunno why but I have an inherant fear of push-pins as I've had to fix too many LGA775 rigs where push-pins have come out over time, or where the user has tried to clean their PC, removed the CPU cooler to get rid of all the fluff and then found they've damaged the pins.

I might invest in a bolt through kit, I am afraid to snap my motherboard though, a ASUS P5QL-PRO, I have a Q66000 and with the push pins, the whole motherboard bends! Not sure if bolt through will help though.

Re: Replacement Freezer 7 Pro Push Pin?

just got a bolt thru kit through from scan and was wondering if anyone could explain the best way to
use it with my arctic cooler fp7?
i have removed push pins (that broke when i last swapped my cpu)
do i need to modify it in any way? not sure wether i need to keep the existing bracket on the cooler or
    remove that?
how would i use the new retention bracket with the spring bolts?
