I hope you find your cat! Tbh they do usually turn up again though. Apparently if you have two they're less likely to go walkies for days (only a couple of hours). Good luck!

Apparently OCUK haven't got a first-come-first-serve system in place so there are a few unhappy people who missed the first batch despite ordering last month!

I have one of these on pre-order to overclock and sell on if its no good. Have seen a few initial overclocking tests on these and the xeon x3550 and the max fsb seems to be around 480. This is very dissapointing as was hoping for 4ghz think I will cancel now.

3.84GHz on a quad is disgusting. I think when I get mine I'll have to use it as key chain.

    Re: Q9450 Availability

I thought Scan was the official Intel distributor for Britain? Why are OCuk getting first bite, where Chris said Scan would? This was the reason I purchased from Scan and not elsewhere.

I mean, what actually is the problem with these latest delays? Surely Intel have had months to prepare for this, given that they pushed the original release back from January. It was always going to be a popular chip.

Just out of curiosity, what are you going to be doing that requires a 4GHz quad? Realtime HDTV video editing? 96-channel orchestral tracking? Simulations of weather systems?

a couple of people getting lucky and bagging 2 9450's is hardly first bite. they got lucky, thats all it is. the yorkfield chips are gonna be in constraint for quite awhile, just like the wolfdales still are from time to time, Intel haven't given over enough fabs to meet demand, and that's not gonna change overnight.

    Re: Q9450 Availability

Intel probably released a few procs so they can tell everyone they've met their Q1 schedule.

What I don't get is why Scan keep changing their ETA.

    Re: Q9450 Availability

I gave up in the end and bought a Q6600 instead. I doubt scan even bothered to read what i put in my email since they never apologised or anything.

    Re: Q9450 Availability

I spoke to Scan earlier today. There are around 150 people in backorder queue for Q9450's. They have had five Q9450's in this week, and they were allocated to those that ordered first back in January. First come first serve, of course.

They said not to set too much store by the ETA date, but they are filtering through slowly and Scan are a preferred Intel reseller, so they are one of the firms that will be supplied these products first.

Speaking for myself I'm prepared to be patient. Not that I have experience of such things, but I think the trickle will become a flood sooner rather than later.

With this info why are you getting a Q9450 over a Q6600? Q6600 is £70 cheaper will clock to about the same has a 9x multi as opposed to 8x for the Q9450. Clock for clock I think the difference is about 5-10%. The only major advantage of Q9450 over the Q6600 is lower power consumption that I can think of.

Is there any way of finding out where you are in the queue? or do you just have to estimate on when you preordered?
