Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
Hi,
I ordered this item and have now received it.
All the retail packaging on the outside indicates that the item is, as indicated, a BFG 9600GT OC2.
What concerned me was when I opened it up.
Although the box was still cello wrap sealed, inside, the anti static bag had been opened and re-sealed.
The label on the fan states OC, rather than OC2. Also there are two stickers on the back of the PCB which also state OC. The white one has been subsequently covered up with a OC2 white sticker.
I'll give Scan a ring in the morning to let them know and what the next steps should be.
Has anyone else encountered this ? I'm suspecting an issue at the factory here...
Thanks,
Pav

I see we are dealing with this issue as we spoke over the phone. Please feel free to post and let everyone know how you get on

Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
Contacted Customer Services who were very helpful and quickly tried to ascertain the issue.
They wanted me to check what the stats of the card said when in the PC, however, I don't have a rig ready for the card yet. Waiting to purchase the motherboard.
They have sent a query onto BFG regarding this issue, and am awaiting to hear back.
Have been advised to keep hold of the card for a short time, and it will not affect any return if required since a note has been made.
My concern is all the incorrect stickers indicating the card is a OC rather than an OC2, baring the second white label with OC2 on it placed over the original OC label, whereas all the other labels on the PCB including the part number label indicate OC, as well as the big label on the fan having OC printed on it.
I was expecting the front to look like this..

Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
Looking at the enclosed pack containing the drivers CD there is a bunch of stickers. One of these stickers is for a 8800 FTW label. There are no stickers with 9600 GT to put on the case.
The mystery & plot thickens....
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
Hi PAV
as we spoke on the phone personally I would send this back for a full refund and then purchase another card as you are in no rush due to waiting on stock for other products you have ordered.
Please feel free to contact me anytime.

Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
Just to update on this, Scan have issued a RMA for a full refund.
No word back from BFG yet, however I believe someone else also contacted San Customer Services with the same problem.
Knocked my faith in buying a BFG 9600 GT OC2 now.
May instead go for an XFX 9600 GT XXX or the Alpha Dog XXX
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
BFG are usually quite good with their (products and) customer services. They way to check if it is the correct product would be to ascertain what the clock speeds are when put in a PC. This is assuming that the OC2 has higher stock clocks...
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
I would have expected them to have at least packaged the product correctly.
Why should the onus be on me to check if the product is correct (sorry can't do anyway because I don't have a motherboard for it yet).
It really does sound like something weird went on at the factory. OC2 retail box, with an OC labelled card, with a drivers CD package containing labels for a 8800 FTW.
Maybe short supplies of OC2's so tried to fulfil orders somehow...

Maybe in short supplies so took some higher-binned OC's ?
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
I can't now decide with 9600 GT to go for instead.
XFX 9600 GT XXX or the 9600 GT XXX Alpha Dog.
Or is there any other someone can recommend ?
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
I have the 8800GTS Alpha DOG XXX, damn good card, I'd give it my recommendation as I am sure other variants of the same caliber are awesome.
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
The card has been received back by Scan and the RMA status screen is confirming the worst. BFG DID package a 9600GT OC into the 9600GT OC2 packaging.
This is not very good. How can BFG get away with this. I also understand that this was not a one off case.
It's only because I looked at the stickers on the Card that I noticed this issue.
However, thank you to Scan for dealing with this very promptly and without any hassles, baring the citylink collection issue which was outside of Scans control.
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
So, what do I go with now. Do I stick with BFG, or do I instead order something else.
My current short list is
EVGA 9600GT KO
XFX 9600GT Alpha Dog XXX
Or is there another card ? I've noticed that some people have been recommending 8800GT's (maybe the BFG 8800GT OC). However my requirement is that it must be a single slot card and not take up two back panel slots.
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
My mistake, I missed the 2 off on the update. It is an OC2 card. Clocks are 690Mhz - 1750Mhz in GPU-Z. Standard cards are 650Mhz - 1625Mhz.

Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
No Worries.
However, still worries me why it's got loads of OC stickers over the card.
Do you think they pulled the OC's back and 'up'ed' them and then re-packaged them ?
Re: Bfg 9600gt OC2 on outside, but inside not the OC2 ?
well they wont have separate production lines for std's OC and OC2 cards... they will just pick them and put the sticker on when they have a certain bios on them. i dont think its impossible for the card to have started life as an OC and then to be reflashed as an OC2... AFAIK the components on all the boards are exactly the same just different Bios/clocks?
i wouldnt worry too much, but then i wouldnt have bought a 9600, nor would i have ordered a gfx card without having a system to put it into!
