Scan going to continue with Spinpoint T166 HD's?
I just noticed that you no longer have any samsung spinpoint 500GB hd's at all. Not even for pre-order. With the new F1 series have to decided to stop selling the t166 series? The F1 series is fast and all, but failure rate is crazy when compared to the t166.
Re: Scan going to continue with Spinpoint T166 HD's?
Oh bother. I was just about to order some 500G T166s. It's certainly not necessarily a good idea to rely too much on anecdotal evidence about failure rates, as these things have a way of snowballing out of context. Nonetheless, there's too much noise about the F1s for me to be interested in taking a risk. If the T166s are no longer being sold, I'll either have to reevaluate makes, or find someone still selling them (if there is anyone).
Re: Scan going to continue with Spinpoint T166 HD's?
There is a thread in hardware somewhere where a few guys (myself included) think that the F1 failure rate is being blown a bit out of context.
Actually finding people that have had one fail on them proved to be hard. The majority of people seem to be going off the "I heard it from X who heard it from Y" sadly.
Re: Scan going to continue with Spinpoint T166 HD's?
Hmmm not to argue but even out of context, Tech report also mentioned that the design of the F1 hd's will increase a risk of failure. And with all the people moaning there has to be something wrong.
I just want a t166 as i've heard good things about them, Other than that i guess i'll have to settle for seagate of WD :)
