scan wont admit theres a problem with my q6600
ive sent my 4 week out quad back to scan as with a freezer pro and a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 HSF the tempratures are through the roof ive tried it in a Asus P5N and in its home usual a Asus P5K premium scan have tested my retail Q6600 with a fan of theres which was a northQ fan not the retail one that was with it which the test should have been carried using only for a couple of hours and informed me of there findings which was 57c which they state is in spec yet every other sites even theres states that using the right equipment that all q6600 will clock over 3ghz yet this one just running stock with the voltage dropped to 1.2 is getting to high 60c low 70c and everyone who has them are stating tempratures of 29c idle and loaded 35c overclockers state that it shouldnt reach 60c and that they guarantee that all the Q6600 wil do 3ghz and not get to these temps or will exchange them as faulty even intel have advised me that it to high and to approch scan for replacements
I have spoke to scan and they will not exchange it they have sent it me back i now have a £130 paperweight i was even told that maybe i hadnt put the HSF on right yet ive tried 3 top class and HSF with artic silver5 numerous times and the best of all is im a fully qualified pc/network tech who know more than they do.
Since getting it back Thursday morning ive sent 2 Emails one to the techs and the other to customer services with proof that the temps are to high and links to peoples forum posts and respected websites including Hexus stating the temps and what other people are getting but now they have decided to ignore my email not even customer service have responded to the complaint i also forgot to mention that i sent screen captures and printouts from the benchmarking programes showing all information of voltage / temps / fan speeds the works one was from prim95 the one they say they tested it with but we all know that to except benchmarking tests as fully stable we should let it run at least overnight yet they recived it tuesday morning and by dinnertime they had made there decision and that it was fine this was after at maximum a couple of hours and thats if it arrived at 10oclock and they put it on test there and then.
This is maybe the only way to get scan to take notice of a loyal customer who has just lastnight spent another £60 with them to listen and maybe sort it out i have no need to lie i have 5 PC's and 3 laptops so i know how they work i also own another quad and that is half the temprature of this so somthing is wrong and its not my rigs.:angst:
Re: scan wont admit theres a problem with my q6600
Are you having any actual stability problems?.. Sensor faults can and do occur.
Re: scan wont admit theres a problem with my q6600
ive had to drop the voltage to 1.2v because the tempretures where even higher i was advised to do this by another hexus member as these problems where there since day one and he suggested droping the voltage to bring the temps down and it did only by a couple of C i even requested the RMA within 48hours but tried to live with it it has throttled back a couple of times which it shouldnt do.
The worst is this is all at 2.4 so any hopes of 3ghz or more are gone one of the main reasons for choosing this was its cool running and high overclock rates in answer to your question my boards are all reading high temps with this Q6600 but the sensors are right the fans that scan recommened for the Q6600 i own all of them the Akasa revo/freezer pro and now the award winning Xigmatek HDT-S1283 which is around as good as the best you can get and is better than some water solutions.
Ive put a spare E4400 in my main rig why i sort this out and its only reading 35c and thats at 2.7ghz not at stock 2ghz ive had it at 3ghz but its not 24/7 stable and its stil under 40c thats a 50%OC and thats without the heatsink compound bedding in yet. If you saw my main rig you would wonder how these tempratures are this possible as the cooling i have is mental 9x120 coolmaster fans mounted inthe coolmater nvida special edition case blowing from all directions this is it

hey polly69, what are you using to measure the temperatures?

everest, cpuz ,right clock cpu utility, core temp and the bios all with the exact same readings and this is on 3 different boards a P5N,P5K and a Abit ip35 pro scan have read 57c on test with prime95 with a aftermarket cooler which is always going to be better and no dout that was in a open case in a airconditioned workshop not a bedroom

I see that you have tried various options then :P
erm.... to me it does sound like a dodgey CPU with maybe an impurity having got into the silicon or something, or mebbe the Heat Spreader is too thick...
but can you not do a direct warranty replacement through Intel?
Re: scan wont admit theres a problem with my q6600
i would try the intel route if i knew how any help would be appreciated but its still not good enough from scan they dont mind taking all the money i spend but cant deal with the faults.
Re: scan wont admit theres a problem with my q6600
Contact Intel Via THIS from and ask about an warranty replacement (it would be quicker doing it this way than through scan anyway, as the processor has to be returned to intel for proper testing [i'm assuming])
HERE is the page i got the form from

Please have the above information ready before contacting Intel.
Note: Please be prepared to provide proof-of-purchase as Intel may request this before processing a warranty request.

trouble is scan will only test at stock speeds, and if its within temp specs they will pass it off, should have used the 7 day rule in hindsight, shame its past that now :(

i did the rma was asked for within 48hours and issued i know they test at stock but they should also test with the intel HSF out of the retail box i sent back not using some aftermarket cooler and i sent proof of the speeds and temps the got 57c themselves overclockers will exchange under warranty any cpu that doesnt do 3gig at under 60c loaded.

i have emailed them thursday but no reply as yet as to rma.
Re: scan wont admit theres a problem with my q6600
Would be interesting to here from scan on why they are using an aftermarket cooler for testing considering what Intel have to say about not using the stock cooler.

They told me on the phone that they had tested it with a northq HSF its obvious the temps are going to be better with a after market solution the 57c they quoted could well have been well over 60c i even sent the fan back so theres no excuse lets hope scan can answer why they didnt test this in line with normal test procedures 70% of owners dont buy aftermarket coolers they use the retail one that comes with a retail cpu and best of all no response when i email them asking WHY? so WHY scan

You not only have a temperature problem but also a grammatical problem as well. Thankfully the second one easier to sort out :). The comma key is there for a reason and your full stop key could do with more of a work out too. Seriously it would make your post easier to read and understand.
As for the first problem, it really does sound as though the IHS is not properly cemented to the core. Why Scan are testing it with a non retail Intel IHF I don't know but they shouldn't be in this case, but your not going to get any mileage with the overclocking argument. It is irrelevant that virtually all Q6600s will do 3Ghz, yours is rated to do 2.4Ghz and no more at default voltages. If it does that and stays within maximum specified temps with the standard HSF then there's nothing more that can be done. You've got a bum processor, end of story. If however, with the board on the test bench and Intel HSF fitted, after 24 hours of stress testing the temps go outside the maximum then you have grounds for a return. I'd use OCCT as the program to stress test it this generally taxes the cpu more than Prime95.
As others have stated going direct to Intel may yield better results. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted.
Re: scan wont admit theres a problem with my q6600
Unfortunate....i agree.
Its within its specified temperature limits at stock though so Scan arent obligated to replace it.
Just because it doesnt overclock to where you want it, and it doesnt stay cool when you do, that cant be a valid reason (rightly or wrongly) to RMA the chip.

If you piad more for it they will.
I would also like to see that one put to the test.
Sceptical i am
