Rma Hd3870 :(
Hi Scan I have a slight problem with this card, ATi HD3870 I brought it from you earlier this year. Anyway as I was using my PC today the monitor randomly came up with "no signal" message, it was not a loose connection so I started to freak!
I removed the graphics card and re seated it, success it booted!! But only for a few seconds then a load of lines appeared on my monitor, I thought that perhaps it was my motherboard having a dodgy connection. Nope my dads graphics card runs fine in my pc boots and stable for hours.
The problem I have is if I sent it back to you it may work and you may say no fault, its seems to be temprimental, at one point I had the card running for 10mins before the screen did the same again (lines and "no signal" message).
Where do I stand I feel that because it works and sometimes not I might be suck with a £150 paper weight!!
Thankyou

Re: Rma Hd3870 :(
Have you tried changing the VGA cable? Or checking that none of the pins on the cable connector are bent. I've had this problem and found that the pins were bent, so I just straightened them out with a pair of pliers.

Re: Rma Hd3870 :(
Do all the lines appear from the bios/post screen onwards or just using 3D applications.
If its from post/bios then its almost certainly dodgy/dead RAM on the GPU and is faulty.
If its only in 3D applications then its almost certainly heat related. (Slight chance it could be a driver issue though but unlikely).

Re: Rma Hd3870 :(
Take some compressed air spray and clean your card from dust. Later try running pc with open case. And of course contact scan through OLQ system, they reply quite quick

Re: Rma Hd3870 :(
Thanks for the replies guys, to answer a few questions,
1. Checked the pins all good, tired my dads card and it booted fine no problems what so ever running for hours.
2. Checked double checked and triple checked cables, tried multiple cables & adapter plugs.
3. Tried the old can of compressed air with no luck.
4. When I connected it again it booted but then to no surprise the screen flashed off again "no signal"
5. Yep it happens from boot sometimes you have to tried resetting and removing the card a few times before it will boot.
Problem is I was just making sure it inst a Motherboard seating problem but because my dads works fine with the PC I have ruled this out I hope! I'm just worried Scan will test it find that it displays and them send it back but it seems to be temprimental as heck!!
Thanks for the replies, I will try it downstairs on another motherboard just to check so I can sleep easy (it didn't work last time) the asus board said "boot failure VGA" didn't know the computer could speak lol :surprised:
**EDIT** by the way I am gutted this is the one month I need my PC up and running I have a lot of things to do so I hope this is all sorted quick as dandy Scan are usually on the ball with these things nothing but 100% from those guys *thumbs up* Im hoping for a replacement or credit for another one ;)

Re: Rma Hd3870 :(
Have a look in the manual for your monitor and follow the instructions to effect a 'factory reset', it might just sort things out ;)
Failing that, try reinstalling/uninstalling then reinstalling your GFX drivers.

Re: Rma Hd3870 :(
Item sent back RMA, I would like to appologise for the extreme packaging, bubble wrap and fully tapped up, no change of damage I think you could submerge it and it wouldn't leak water lol
