    Recovering a RAID 5

    Hello,

I had some problems today with my system not booting, following some advice on this forum i repaired windows and that has fixed the problem.

However I had windows installed on a systems drive, and 3 storage hard drives in a RAID 5. the repair process has restored windows, but lost the RAID 5.

How can i recover the RAID and the data stored on the drives?

    Thanks
    Ed.

    Re: Recovering a RAID 5

    Hiya

You'll need to go into the RAID Management interface (usually accessable via a keystroke after the BIOS)(Presuming motherboard RAID) - there will usually be an option to rebuild the raid - or somesuch -

Is it a motherboard RAID - if so, what is the motherboard?

Doing some digging your motherboard is the ASUS P5W64WSPRO I975? And if your using Intel RAID then download and install this.

    Re: Recovering a RAID 5

I have the Intel(R) Matrix Storage Console, when i load it i get an error message saying:

"the RAID plug-in failed to load, because the driver is not installed correctly."

    click OK

"the serial ATA plug-in failed to load, because the driver is not installed correctly."

    click OK

I then get the blank console up.

    Re: Recovering a RAID 5

Have you done anything to the BIOS? And is the RAID runing off the motherboard or card?

In any case as you boot up at POST do you see any RAID info?

I see no information about the RAID when i boot up. I used to before I repaired windows.

    Re: Recovering a RAID 5

Ok then I think RAID is disabled in the BIOS then.

Enter the BIOS and go to > Main > IDE Configuration and change 'Configure SATA AS' to RAID.

F10 to save reboot and then try to install the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager.

    Re: Recovering a RAID 5

I did that, and everything seemed to be working, a screen came up listing the RAID configuration, and then windows started to load,

however it scrolled a couple of times and then froze, a blue screen flashed up and the computer restarted. this is the original problem for which I repaired windows.

    Re: Recovering a RAID 5

What you might have to do is reinstall with the RAID drives on disk with the RAID enabled.
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ional&lang=eng

Press F6 at the Windows is setting up screen then say yes to add a driver and out of the list it should be 'Intel(R) ICH7R/DH SATA RAID Controller' then do the repair thing again.
