Has my PSU broken the rest of my system?

Right, this is a slightly different problem to those I experienced a couple of days ago in this thread:
    http://forums.hexus.net/scan-care-he...er-switch.html

I've installed a brand spanking new PSU. I'm pressing the power switch, and the furthest I'm getting is the Gigabyte first screen, before it either hangs or turns itself off. Sometimes I'll press the power switch and it will instantly turn off. Other times I'll last long enough to get one POST beep before it hangs or turns off. Either way it doesn't get anywhere near booting.

    Is my motherboard dead?

NB - My old dead PSU smells a bit like something is burnt, I wonder what it is...

Right I've fixed it by myself, close this please mods.

Plus, I've sent off a technical query about this, if you want to cancel that too that'd be cool.

Ok nope, haven't fixed it. I had to reseat one RAM stick but while i did get into windows it then shut off and now i appear to be getting similar problems.

    Any ideas?

check all your connections, then try resetting cmos and boot with one stick of ram then check the ram timing/voltages if u can get a POST and work up from there. GA boards reboot like this after failed overclocks or with faulty/incorect setting ram. In all but rare instances tho they will reset themselves, so force the cmos reset and see if it helps.

I've had a similar issue to that once when a CPU cooler had become loose in transit. Just double check everything and follow rabbid's suggestions, otherwise you're welcome to call the tech guys

Re: Has my PSU broken the rest of my system?

yes following on from that it can also be the fan not spinning up on the cpu (or not plugged in etc) and the mobo shutting down as it cant detect cpu fan rpm. this should be cured by either plugging the fan in(!) or a cmos reset.
