    Water Cooling Question for Peter

    Hi Peter,

I was told to post this question on the forums for you by the guys at Scan.

I have been building PC's for many years and it's my first time into water cooling. I took lots of advice and bought lots of kit.

Now comes the part to fit it together, must of it is the same as usual. However, I've never mounted the radiator before in this case.

The parts are: Silverstone TJ07 case - I would like to use the bottom for mounting the radiator.
The radiator is a brown box part, and takes 3 x 120mm fans across to cool it.

Do I need to fabricate any parts or can the mounting brackets be purchased?

I understand that the parts are the same as in other high end scan systems.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Adrian.

Re: Water Cooling Question for Peter

One of the best ways to do it that I have heard of is using heavy duty velcro across the bottom of the case and the rad. This way you can remove the rad if needed.

Re: Water Cooling Question for Peter

We have a fabricated bracket to hold radiator (on its side) into place at the bottom of the case.

I will find out if we can sell these separately, however I doubt it as they are for our high end water cooled systems.

Failing that as Madafwo says some strong velco will also hold the rad in place.

If you do mount a 3x120 rad in the bottom of the case you will lose both HDD racks and need to use caddys in optical drive bays.

Is there any reason your not mounting the rad in the top of the case ?

Just a thought, but wouldnt putting the radiator at the bottom of the case, significantly increase the heat inside the case or am i missing a trick?

Re: Water Cooling Question for Peter

If you had the exhaust from the rad blowing inside the case then yes, However this wouldn’t really apply here.

The radiator in the bottom of the TJ07 is on its side with large vents either side, the air flow enters on one side and then exits from the other, some warm air may rise upwards however this will be minimal and doesn’t warrant concern.

I still think its best to mount in the roof of the system with the fans blowing the air out.

Re: Water Cooling Question for Peter

    Hi Philipp,

I don't mind losing the HDD bays in the bottom, I have an Icy Dock caddy for 4 HDD's that takes up 3 drive bays in the front.

I want to use the bottom, as I might have to put another rad in the top anyway. There is a lot of cooling required. Everything is water cooled, 2 x Quad processors, Skulltrail MB (2 water coolers), 9800GX2...

The top is only good for 2 x 120mm fans. The rad for the bottom is 3 x 120mm fans.

It would be really great if you could find a mounting bracket set, as I bought all the other kit from Scan.

Thanks for your help on this.

    Best regards,

    Adrian.

Re: Water Cooling Question for Peter

the silverstone tj107 a sweet case for water cooling, though a little over the top at times..

if you are building it all yourself without kit, suggest you look up some reveiws /build guides for the silverstone tj107 or youtube sinse there a lot of guides for it.

i personaly like the radiator on the bottom, find it more stable and works quite well, p.s get UV... red..looks sweet, my mate got pink---.--- think he ordered wrong red colour batch.

Re: Water Cooling Question for Peter

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your posts... I really appreciate it...

Phillipp - I don't want to take a saw to my really nice new (and expensive) case! I'm all for moddin' and all that but, that's kinda extreme for me at the moment...

Just trying to work out how to mount the fans on the rad... that's a real pain too... The holes are not threaded and are slightly different sizes!!! So, in some the screws will bite and in others they just poke through... nuts... and washers will be required me thinks... hehehe...

I'd really like a bracket set round about now... Please...

Thanks again for all your help...

    Adrian.

Re: Water Cooling Question for Peter

    Asmales,

Even if we can sell the bracket for the bottom of the case, it requires drilling the bottom of the case.

You will need to be able to strip the case right down, are you sure your ok doing this, it really might be easyer screwing the fans to the rad and using heavy duty velcro to hold it in place.

    Cheers

Re: Water Cooling Question for Peter

    Hi Phillipp,

I've finished the build and velcroed every thing in place with heavy duty velcro... That stuff is really great it's much stronger than I thought it was.

Once you realise that it's a unique build, and you have to mod bits as you go, it went really well.

I used quite a bit of epoxy to create a base for the fans. This was required because with the fans mounted on the rad, there was a gap under the fans. As it happened the gap was just about exactly the thickness of a 5 1/4" case blanking panel (See above post for case used).

I epoxed one at each end of the fans (with a small gap in the middle). I had to bend the sides in and filled the gaps with epoxy too! This made the base very strong.

Then I just cut the velro to fit and stuck it in place.

I also mounted the pump and the flow sensor using heavy duty velcro too. It has fantastic holding and you can remove it if you need too.

What I would like to get help with now is how do I calibrate the flow and Temp sensors the the Aquaero system?

The readings I'm getting suggest that the temp doesn't rise above 30 deg. There is a temp drop between input and output of the rad, which suggests everything is working.

I was a bit skeptical, but an uncalibrated finger test on the cooler blocks suggested that it was about right in the 30 (ish) deg mark.

Any help with the correct cal settings would be great.

    Thanks again.

    Adrian.
