Cat ate my graphics box - RMA help please

Had no end of problems with my new system. After much testing of all components and reading the worryingly high number of similar problems people are having with the new 48XX cards, I think RMAing the card (Gigabyte HD4870) is the next step.

I have questions about the RMA process that hopefully one of the helpful scan folks could answer for me please?

I still have all the packaging and parts for the card but yesterday turned round to find my cat had badly chewed the edge of the inner cardboard box (I fixed this particular technical issue by applying a re-boot to the cat's COM A port ). I promise it hasn't chewed the card itself as that was still in the machine!

How will this affect an RMA request?

If the card is returned and has a fault, roughly how long does it take to test and send a replacement? Are we talking days or weeks? If it is going to take a while, I might get a cheapy GFX card while waiting just to use the damn system.

Finally, I would like to understand the testing process - what tests would the RMA testers run on HD4870 gfx cards? Can I do any of this at home before sending the thing off?

There shouldn't be an issue if the cards faulty, but if it is not then the cat is amongst the pidgeons.

Thank you for returning to the world of sanity Wesley. Can you answer my other two questions i.e. if there is to be a replacement is there a rough guide to how long the process CAN take? and what tests would be run by the testing people on the gfx card in case I can run them at home and avoid the whole RMA process please?
