    320GB Western Digital WD3200AAKS: 1 or 2 Platters?

Western Digital released a updated version of the WD3200AAKS 6 months ago, its now has only 1 platter, faster performance, lower acoustics, and lower power consumption compared to its older 2 platter model. Apparently a number of retailers still havnt had the new models filtered down through re-stocks.

It would be nice to know if this is a 1 or 2 platter version of the model, and it would also be useful if you could state in the technical information of how many platters the model has.

    Scan FTW

Bit off topic but I can't say which version mine was as I RMA'd it this morning, hopefully I will get the better version back if there is such a thing. It was fitted last Nov btw.

    Re: 320GB Western Digital WD3200AAKS: 1 or 2 Platters?

Scan, have we got an up to date answer for this yet?

The single platter ones are labelled: WD3200AAKS-00B3A0

The 2 platter ones are labelled: WD3200AAKS-00YGA0

I'm needing to order this particular drive as soon as possible for someone.

    Cheers

SCAN have no idea what they are going to get.. they have no control over the matter... it all depends on what their supplier has in stock.. if they have the older drives then SCAN will get the older drives...

You could perhaps order, check which it is when they arrive and return them under the Distance Selling Regs if they're not the version you want. You'll have to pay ther return postage though.

Not a great idea IMO. It will just be hassle all around... I would just wait until its confirmed if you want to buy from Scan...

They can check what they currently have, they did for me here... So I would just wait a little while unless you are in a rush, then you have to look elsewhere

Well, Ebuyer had them as they checked thier stock and confirmed this, Overclockers have them in stock too as this has been confirmed. Pity Scan could not go the extra mile and try and get these ones in as they are really popular. I got one and it is awesome!!

Sigh even though you updated the name to the newer caviar blue, I still ended up with the older 2 platter model today
