    Fan Issue

    Hi,

I have a approximately 2 year old pc I bought from you guys. Its a asus a8n32-sli-deluxe Mobo. One of the fans, I think its the fan over the processor but cant be sure, has started making a horrible noice. Now although I think its that fan, I must point out that using Asus PC Probe, I sometimes get alerts that the Chassis RPM is below threshold (sometimes don to 45o rpm). I have no idea which fan is actually the chassi rpm.

So my questions: Does anyone know what the CPU, Chassis and Power RPM should actuallly be running at?

Is there any way I can actually tell which fan is making the noise? (its so noisy that I can't actually pinpoint where its coming from)

Is there anything I can do other than simply replacing it?

If I do need to replace it, what do I replace it with?

    Thanks In advance.

    Speeds vary with temperature,
Stick your finger on it to stop it, if the noise goes you've found it.
You can clean it, and strip it and lubricate it, sometimes works.
Change like for like, if it's the cpu fan you might have to change the hsf.

use a rolled up newspaper held to your ear to pinpoint which fan the noise is coming from (i'm not actually kidding...)

Don't forget to do this while licking your finger and sticking it in the plug socket.. (I am kidding )

I've honestly never heard of that before... I guess it's good for those who have delicate fingers...

hmm, i just use it cos it's good for directional noise control... it just seemed logical...

    Re: Fan Issue

Speeds vary with temperature - What should the temp be in idle approx?

Stick your finger on it to stop it- Seriously? That won't damage it?

edit - Ok, well that trick basically ruled out all fans but the power supply (since I cant put my finger on that one). The only other thing in that region is the sli graphics cards.

use a rolled up newspaper - I guess i get the physics....

edit -Unfortunately the noise is too loud to pinpoint using this

Thanks guys - Will try the above suggestions (apart from Madafwo's of course)
