Update on Powercolor 1Gb HD 4870?

    Hi guys

Just wondering if there has been any update on the 1 Gb Powercolor HD 4870 (LN23977). They were due in today, does it look like that will happen, or are you expecting them to be delayed?

    Cheers

I could be wrong, but they are mostly based on reference design so they probably don't spend loads on tweaking, redesigning etc. The usually get good reviews from what I've seen.

Which isn't usualy a bad thing. Most people overclock their own cards or install custom coolers. So tis all good.

Hmm, tempting... is waiting a week(or maybe longer) worth saving £10? Will have to think about it

On OCUK it's on sale for £193. But you'll have to pay postage.

Personally I had a very bad experience with Overclockers in the past and in my opinion its a company to stay well clear off.
The current Scan to Ebuyer difference in price is only £1.50 ish now that Scan's price has shot up. Sadly they also list the part as not being in either till the 15th as well .

People have bad experiences with Scan, Ebuyer, etc etc... it happens. With their free postage, OCUK are now generally best for RAM and GPU's.

And watercooling. Generally I find OCUK have a large selection of parts and you can get pretty much everything there. SCAN tend to get cheaper prices but have a smaller stock list. This is probably from doing deals with companies to only stock their goods and get lower prices.

I've heard some epic horror stories from OCUK, but I ordered my armour + recent watercooling setup from them and it arrived without a hitch. I've also had no problems with scan though, so tbh I don't really have a "loyalty" as such and will go with whatever gets me the best parts for the least amount of money.

How can I get free postage with OCUK? Through their forums?

Yup, similar to HeXus albeit with slightly stricter time/post requirements I think.

Unreal! First the damn motherboard I was going to order has gone up £20 and is actually cheaper on Overclockers and now the GFX card goes up a tenner. Personally I think Scan are really shooting themselves in the foot by raising their prices in line with OCUK or other retailers.

The savings going to be made by shopping with Scan were what attracted me to the site in the first place, but now those are rapidly diminishing. I don't think any online computer retailer is going to compete with OCUK due to their formidable forum and loyal customer base, so competetive prices are going to be where they attract more business.

Couple this with the pre-orders being pushed back and back further on such items as the Powercolour 4870 1gb card.... I think my £1500 will be going elsewhere.
