    Prices up AGAIN???

    hello,

I've had a look at your site, and I can see today the prices of the products I looked at have all gone up again. Why is this? I thought the pound was recovering?

Industrial espionage is simply the sincerest form of flattery......

    Nope. Nowhere near.

For most of this year, it's been between $1.95 and £2.03, and was above $2 until the end of July. From early August, it started declining steadily, and dipped under the $1.50 for the first time in quite some yeas about a week ago, and that's where it still is ..... $1.48-ish.

    Rates quoted are interbank rates.

In other words, if the only impact was straight exchange rates, a $200 processor in July would have cost you about £100, at $2=£1.

Now, that same processor would cost you £134.68 at $1.4850.

Or to put it another way, the pound has dropped about 25% against the dollar, so it buys a third less than it did.

I am not saying Scan are doing this but I reckon if this 15% VAT is announced then you will see a bucket load of shops bump the prices so they can cream the extra 2.5% for themselves

We won't see much bumped up prices, they just won't change!
Except for overclockers obviously, it'll look like they've gone super extortionate

    Re: Prices up AGAIN???

I would have made a lot of money if I had purchased loads of dollars back in the summer.

It really is depressing, I think the prices went up again today. I see the Q9550 is £253, yesterday it was £252. This is insane!!

    Re: Prices up AGAIN???

They are going to go up for a while. The pound is worth nothing, I would predict the pound to be at $1.30 for a dollar before the end of the year.

    Re: Prices up AGAIN???

Watching the rates this morning on the news showed there seems to be another drop in the value of the pound.

I can't believe it, I would have been able to buy an upgrade for £60 less had I NOT been patient and bought it right away.

I've just re-checked my system upgrade and I would have paid a fair bit more now than I did in October for the same parts.

It is going to go up almost all next year. But don't worr about your PCs, we are about to experience "The Great Depression v2.0", there are going to be more important things to worry about in a few months.

But they are the first retailer to pass the 2.5% VAT cut to their customers & I hate to say it, but even though their prices are high on many items, they do have stock. With SCAN almost all the products I brows to are Out of stock or overdue.

Low prices without stock is not my idea of competitive pricing.

You should look towards the pre-owned market, some people have upgraded to i7, so there are plenty of used components available at a fairly low price.
