DVD drive killed my PSu and motherboard and maybe my CPU?
i will go on for ever if i dont put it in bullet points
1. brother took dvd drive so i bought a new one ( pc working fine no probs from scan btw )
2. inserted new DVD drive and my pc wouldnt turn on so i checked all cables were in
still wouldnt turn on so i thought it might be a faulty so i un pluged it and still nothing my only other thought was static ( the on board LED wasnt on either ) so i got my old pc out and put my gpu ,ramm and hdd into it and it started fine no probs ( doesnt static kill the whole computer? )
3. so i took out my new PSU and put old one into the new pc and got nothing
4. put new psu into old pc nothing happend
so i think the mother board psu and maybe the cpu i havnt get another AMD mother to test it on
have all died
anyone got an idea what it might be ?????
and its a Corsair PSu and it says on the box 3 year warranty ( had it less than a year ) so can i bring it back to scan to replace it if it is broken.
and how can a DVD drive kill half my computer ????
tried to make it short but i think i Failed

Static kills what you were touching at the time and as the computer should have been off at the time nothing else ...which is what this sounds like.
The real problems with static are the different charges/levels, when you are all connected via a wrist band or whatever, it keeps you all (you and the parts you have to touch) at the same levels.
You should keep the PSU plugged in but SWITCHED OFF and power plug/mains switched off but plugged in, or have the place you work at earthed and then everything connected. With the mains plugged in but off turn on the PSU to clear the caps and then go from there.
NEVER use the anti static bag the motherboard came in to put it onto to put anything on that you will be working with, every time you get a new part to add ground you and then it on the case, even if you have a wrist strap, and for the cost you should always have one.
Re: DVD drive killed my PSu and motherboard and maybe my CPU?
My computer was unplugged when i added the DVD Drive i only noticed the led light wasnt on when i tried to turn my pc back on
i put a working PSu into my new compter and nothing happend
and i put my new PSu into my old working pc and nothing happend
Re: DVD drive killed my PSu and motherboard and maybe my CPU?
I often touch the coper pipes for my central heating, its close to my desk. I don't use static straps but I always have a bit of me touching metal - I have a toe touching the cental heating pipe.
Live and learn, we all have messed up things in the past.
Re: DVD drive killed my PSu and motherboard and maybe my CPU?
i took the computer to a local store and
used his PSu and the motherboard and cpu were working fine
so i think its just the PSU so will i be able to return the PSU and get a new one ?
