    Faulty HD (Samsung 320GB)?

What does this error mean, should I be worried?

if its unknown you cant use that as a faulty part as it could be as daft as saying its turned on.

it wouldnt matter if they did, its not a problem as its a generic tool and not specific to that drive

    Re: Faulty HD (Samsung 320GB)?

it wont fix it as there allocated as bad sectors so windows wont use them again

you could low level format the drive, then it would hide them from the operating system as it will use spare sectors insead of those to give the correct disk size

    Re: Faulty HD (Samsung 320GB)?

not with so few sectors replaced you cant

they build drives with extra sectors, if one is flagged as bad the drive allocates another one to replace it, there will be a lot of spare sectors and after running the drive makers test tool it will flag it as clean

like i said, you can low level format the drive and it will remove them from windows as it wont see them in the 1st place.

so no you cant send it back or you may get charged to take return of the same drive if you try to pull a fast one as its within specs and doing what its ment to by flagging the bad sector

    Oh ok.

When you say "low level format"... which one are you referring to?

do you mean from Samsung Diagnostic Disk or .... Windows XP CD using Full Format Without Quick.

See what the Samsung Diagnostic Disk says about SMART data - I think it's an .iso that you download and burn to a CD then boot from it. Look for SMART data. As previously mentioned, do a low level format if possible. If you are concerned, you could contact Samsung and see what they have to say about it.

    Re: Faulty HD (Samsung 320GB)?

Samsung Diagnostic Tool wouldn't run on my system for some reason, but I did run HD Tune to see what I got: It looks like B8 isn't read correctly by this tool - I have 2 drives, bot fairly new and B8 is yellow on both so I wouldn't worry about it. Not sure about the Reallocated Sector Count, mind.

    Re: Faulty HD (Samsung 320GB)?

I might have to return HD back.

I keep getting files corrupt and I have to use chkdsk all the time to fix the problems. I never had that problem on old previous HD.
