New Cooler Master Silent Pro 600M PSU ... Noisy !

I purchased a CoolerMaster Silent Pro 600M PSU through SCAN and the thing makes an annoying "motorboat" like noise that is very audible over the case fan + cpu fan in my workstation, even with no load on the PSU. A recording of the fan noise is here ( the volume might need to be turned up, the mic was a bit away from the PSU ) - http://rapidshare.com/files/208523645/fan_noise.mp3. The problem is that when the PSU is in the case, the noise gets amplified and becomes even more distracting.

After reading several reviews that praised the PSU for its near-silent operation - I'm a bit surprised. Is this a defective fan maybe ? Does anyone out there have any experience with CoolerMaster Silent Pro PSU fans acting like this ?

can you remove the psu and carefully check if the fan is restricted or catching on anything?
or if anything is loose inside there?

I have one of these PSUs and I've had absolutely no trouble with it - it's always been extemely quiet. You definitely have a dodgy one I'm afraid! I have no experience of dealing with the internals of PSUs (waaay too scared of killing the PSU and/or myself ) but I'm sure someone on here will have some tips

I removed the PSU from the system and checked it outside the case, especially if the fan was catching. When the PSU is off, the fan can spin freely. So I don't think it is a loose grill cover or something hitting the fan.

If you have one of the psu testers plug it in and spin up the psu outside the case and try to listen/see whats causing it.

I finally managed to test the PSU outside the case with an old motherboard that has a passive heatsink for an old low power CPU ... the PSU fan itself is noisy. Read other forums and people complained about the PSU fan on this model as well. Looks like its the luck of the draw, with some having to go through two or three exchanges to get a good piece.

Hence I am buying a BeQuiet instead - one of the customer service people told me that the BeQuiet series is really very quiet. I have an RMA from SCAN and will request a refund for this PSU asap.
