    Possible faulty GTX 280/Red light

Hi, I purchased a Leadtek GTX280 but I belive it might be faulty and need an RMA.

When I turn the PC on the red light comes on the card but the fan doesn't start and the PC won't post.

I tried moving the power cables around to see if giving it power from different rails would help but it didn't, I even tried swapping out a few different adaptors to see if the 8 pin one provided with the card was faulty . It just won't start up.

I put an old 8800GT in one PCIE slot and the GTX 280 in the other and looked in the Bios, the bios reports that it can't identify the card. I also tried it in both PCIE slots just in case but same problem.

The PC itself is a Dell Precision T7400 with a 1000w PSU and is quite capable of running a Quadro FX5800 which is very similar to the GTX 280. I'm not really sure what to do next, I've not heard of this card not being able to run on this type of PC. Others have confirmed that it will support them.

    Suggestions would be welcome!

Thanks. I'll RMA it unless a solution is suggested and works.

Have you stripped the system and booted outside the chassis? Always the first point of call when diagnosing a system. Remove everything that isn't essential. So you should only have

Mobo, Cpu (and cooler), RAM and GPU. Obviously hook up a keyboard and monitor to get your display and have a tinker with your hardware. This is what we suggest to anyone and everyone who is having a motherboard/gpu issue.
